OH YEAH animal mascots were also a part of Hogwarts canon! I have completely forgotten their existence, lol. A lot of it is very, very British in an inescapable way.

(And in Finland, the Swedish-speaking ruling class's children would be sent to a different school for the "better folk" that had a different magic tradition entirely, methinks.)
