Music Spotlight: Volturian
I have recentishly discovered a bunch of music via YouTube recommendations and browsing Bandcamp! I figured I'd occasionally pop in and recommend something from what I've found. I'll be reccing more obscure/new stuff – so no Have You Heard About Nightwish coming up. My tastes run towards metal with clean female vocals, more on the symphonic end than the trash end, and I have a preference for things that are at least vaguely danceable by my idiosyncratic metrics. I'm by no means a connoisseur – my qualifications start and end with "likes listening to music" – so don't expect any actual critical reviews in my introductions.
With that said, let's start with band #1!
Volturian: a project classified under power metal, melodic symphonic metal, or groove metal. Female vocals with occasional very background male growling. The songwriting (and guitar and synths) is by Federico Mondelli (of Frozen Crown fame, amongst others), though of his bands, I like Volturian the most. The lead vocalist, Federica Lanna, has a voice I'd describe as smooth and which dips nicely from the midtones to the lows and settles lightly on the highs. Massimiliano Rossi's bass line and Alberto Mezzanotte's drumming form a nice rhythmic foundation, and I would classify most of the tracks as danceable. They put out their debut album, Crimson, in 2020, and I'm watching out for more.
Crimson is 9.99€, and you can listen to all the songs for free before buying. A number of them have music vids up on YouTube. Here are two of my favorites: (Though 6 out of 10 songs on the album ended up in my music library, and the other 4 were a close call as well.)

I know
You meant these words
To be unspoken
But I will cross the line
I'll get you when you're sleeping
And this time I'll be better
I won't let you out
I'll be there
Even when you leave me broken
Said it once, I'll say it twice
I can't use your help as it's too late
For you to save my soul
I swear no pride
