Nirvana in Fire 2, eps 41-44
Third-last post. I'll do today and tomorrow's eps in one post, then the final two next tuesday. Is this over already?

Nirvana in Fire 2 isn't actually about the Changlins – it's about Yuanqi's moral downfall. The Changlins are just there to contrast.
Pingjing's one-half retiring into a life as Lin Xi's assistant-husband and one-half concerned for Da Liang's fate. He's done pretty well so far, conning Yuanqi into believing he's 100% retiring into the Jianghu (rather than only 50%) with his acting and faked "we're totally gonna marry". The actual proposal to Lin Xi was the sweetest thing.
The most interesting plot was Pei'er's. She overheard Madam Qi, and the whole bit with her being so shocked and terrified was well-done, and her jumping into the lake ... I don't think Anru necessarily thought Pei'er would survive it, but Pei'er's survival was well-done, and getting picked up by Yue Yinchuan was a coincidence that was still believable.
General Yue is nice. He's clunky with court etiquette, has no idea how the capital works, and is the honest outsider in the nest of power games. Nevertheless, he managed to kinda sidestep Yuanqi trying to discredit him, and gave Xun Pei'er's testimony and all the other dodgy things.
Minister Xun got both ends of the rope against Yuanqi, and was going to do the right thing (after some convincing), but was killed. Madam Qi is the most OTT dramatic assassin ever. If only you'd asked Feizhan to accompany you, Xun. Or asked Yue Yinchuan and Tan Heng to meet you at your place. The not-quite-regret about perhaps mistreating Changlin was interesting. Maybe he has a conscience and realized he overstepped with the decree to stop Pingjing. The whispering about Changlin at the end of his life was a hint to Yue to get himself to Langya Mountain and ask Pingjing for help. It's not like Yue knows who he can trust, in the capital. His concerns about Feizhan not believing him are very legit.
Anru's life sucks. Yuanqi promised not to do any more reckless political things, but then he assassinated her uncle. She's alone and trapped, though Minister Xun did send maids loyal to the Xuns. She almost got out the plot of Yuanqi's, but was cut off by Feizhan arriving and then everyone thought it was just her being pregnant.

Yue Yinchuan is the best! After Feizhan, maybe. Feizhan does get one final good memory of his uncle not being an idiot/asshole. (Dumplings.) Xun also really should've taken Feizhan up on the offer of escorting him to the Palace.
Depending on your definition of traitor, there's one other person who's the son of one and is shown to be not evil.
