Please ignore the fact that I haven't actually posted for a bit. I was commenting on We Die Like Fen things!
7. What would make you leave a fandom, or prevent you from getting into it in the first place?
I only get into fandoms if I have someplace or someone to enthuse about it with! So if all the fannish energy is on Twitter, I'm not getting into the fandom, for instance. But other than that I'm pretty easy – having one person to squee/discuss fic ideas with in Discord PMs is enough. As long as that sort of space exists, I'll be fine, even if the greater fandom is full of harassing mobs or whatever.
As for why I'd leave a fandom, well, the #1 cause is my well of inspiration drying, but the sort of ... "safe space"? mentioned above going away will definitely dry it. Fandom is about community and interaction, and sometimes that community is two lizards chilling under a rock, but if you don't have the rock to chill beneath and all the potential fellow lizards are venomous snakes, that really puts a damper on the fannish thing. I might still write for the fandom in exchanges, where at least one other person will appreciate what I've done, but shouting into the void is not really my thing.
