Vid Projects

In honor of today's [community profile] snowflake_challenge being to talk about a fannish project you're currently doing:

Remember my vidding resolution to complete my [community profile] vid_bingo card? I am currently procrastinating on clipping for my character study vid, and thus went through and dl'd all the Sheng Wei x Ai Ye filmograpy I listed here plus the new one [personal profile] douqi subtitled on [community profile] baihe_media. I also installed cleancredits and ran it! I couldn't get the mask maker GUI to show up, so I made my own with GIMP – for the first pass I'm just getting rid of the bilibili logo in the corner. The hardsubs I can clip around, zoom around, or do on a later pass. My current issue is that I am bad at making masks. I cropped out the built-in letterbox of the test footage and even then, the logo is ... well, the pixel interpolation left the end result a bit blobby. Ah well. At least it's less noticeable than the original logo.

(Unexpected bonus of the built-in letterboxing: For three of the source short films, the logo is wholly on the black letterbox and I can easily crop it out! For one of them, the hardsubs are also in the letterbox! \o/)

Also I've taken a look at the Wikipedia lists of science fiction films released by decade from 2000 onwards to see if there's anything a) made in Europe b) starring a woman c) I might want to watch and vid. This is me preparing for the Eurovision show of [community profile] vidukon_cardiff. Why do I love homework so much.

Things which should have interesting visuals:
Aniara
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
Gravity
Cargo

Other things I might at least not insta-hate based on the summary:
Immortal
Hell
What Happened to Monday
Morgan
W (I feel like I should watch this just because it's Finnish)
The Girl With All the Gifts

If you know any of the above is good, bad, or extremely (un)viddable, please tell.

([community profile] space_swap schedule tomorrow.)

Aniara and Gravity are both gorgeous, though I don't know that I would quite call Gravity scifi.

...I don't know what I expected from Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets but that cast list was Not It, it looks ridiculous and I need to watch it now.

I'm so interested to see what you're going to make out of the GL footage! Btw here is a new Sheng Wei/Ai Ye video I haven't subtitled yet (but will do shortly). Also, I really feel you on the logos and hardsubs! Kuaishou especially does an irritating thing of having its logo move periodically around the four corners of the video, which makes vidding super annoying.

I have been able to pull videos without the logo off Douyin by going to Developer Tools in Chrome, then the 'Network' tab and the 'Media' panel. Doesn't seem to work with the other platforms though.

Haha, I guess that guy will never be short of work!

valerian has a banger opening, pretty visuals and an absolute nothingburger of a movie after that. i watched it in the movies and i couldn't retell you the plot or key scenes if you made me.
