Battleship wrap-up

Once again, I did battleshipex and had fun. (Mostly.) Team Volcano was nice (our tagline: Surprisingly Chill!) and we came joint third with Mermaids. Between requests, my preferences (I've ... gone off M/M somehow?), and some board mechanics, I ended up writing a lot of original works. I also did art this year!

lol nope; was turbo demotivated and also we got ... not that much time on it before Tunnel and Crystal finished

Total boards: 69 tags (nice), 7205w => 96% tag efficiency
Total words & points: 33.6k (most of which was art)

Previous year:
Board 1: 42 tags, 5370w => 79% tag efficiency
Boss 1: -
Board 2: 48 tags, 6387w => 76% tag efficiency
Boss 2: 5142 points
Board 3: 48 tags, 5794w => 84% tag efficiency
Total boards: 138 tags, 17551w => 79% tag efficiency

This year I contributed much fewer words (avg 3.6k/board; last year 5.8k/board), but I got much better at tag efficiency, so the drop in average tags claimed was only to 34/board from 46/board. Also I put in 26.4k points worth on the bosses, more than five times what I did last year!

Also apparently the median number of works created is 5 and the highest is 37. I'm at 11 this year. The median wordcount was 9852, which, well, honestly I'm surprised it was only that much larger than my wordcount?

Cool stats! 11 works is so much, omg.

How does Battleship writing feel to you, compared to "regular" writing? Or to regular exchange writing, maybe. It's such a different setup, with the tags and the speed and everything.

I... missed Battleship this year. =_= I thought it was later in the summer! Ngl, still salty about it, even though life has been A Lot so it might have been a good thing.

Why were you demotivated for Board 3? Was it because of the game?

Board 3 was a full board clear. We were in the middle of Boss 2, still, which felt like a slog, and then the leading teams hit Board 3 ... and revealed that at the end of our slog, we would be rewarded with even more of a slog.

(Are you subscribed to battleshipex on DW and still on the discord server? If not, you can fix that so there's less chance you miss it next year.)

Writing for Battleship is great, once we've narrowed down things a bit. Trying to figure out how to stuff as many of the tags as possible into a coherent story is fun! There's much less of the "freezing at the blank page" feeling, and the gamification really works for me.
