Yeah, there's a lot of potentially cool stuff there, but also the potential for idk superbug creation, or just people screwing up and accidentally creating something harmful. Even the plastic-eating bacteria could be disastrous if they eg got into a hospital and started eating up all the plastic hygiene stuff.

water management would be interesting to explore in a fictional context of terraforming I agree! It's fertile ground to play in. Emmi Itäranta's Memory of Water did sort of deal with this a bit, but there's still room there.
