WIP Wednesday
27 Jul 2022 19:08Despite her confidence and determination back in the audience room, she still had some doubts. She'd been about to decide to return to the Jedi – return home – before Mandalore, but it had been a fragile thing, easy to crush with doubts or disillusionment. Then the Republic had fallen and the Jedi Order with it, and she was the prodigal child never given the chance to come home before it burned to ashes.
She'd wanted to come. Oh, she'd wanted to come, she could now admit to herself. And now she couldn't.
And even if she could … who would knight her with her master gone? Anakin was dead. So was Master Plo. She couldn't sense Master Obi-Wan. Who was left, from whose blade knighthood would have any meaning?
Help me, Master, she thought, and reached out into the Force.
Anakin's ghost snapped to her, surprised. He felt like concern and urgency, wrapped around Ahsoka like a safety blanket. What ails you now, O padawan mine? Ahsoka could imagine him saying.
She could not speak words into the Force, but she could push all her feelings, the entire complicated tangle of them, at him. She wanted his advice, wanted him alive, and accidentally unleashed her cruelest, most selfish desire: to have her master by her side.
Okay! Hm. Well, let's skim through a few things. I like more things than I name here, and since I already talked a bit about my / ships in my SW Rare Pairs letter, I'm mostly concentrating on & relationships. A lot of my fannishness is setting, worldbuilding, and solo characters, so with my current interests the relationships section is just Star Wars. /only moderately incoherent
Obi-Wan Kenobi & Anakin Skywalker
One of my big likes is Good mentor figures/teachers who have their students' best interests at heart and succeed. This is not that. This is Obi-Wan Kenobi's B+ to D- Parenting, Anakin and Obi-Wan's complicated relationship where Obi-Wan's best wasn't actually good enough but now that he's a Knight, Anakin has forgiven him for it because Anakin's issues are around losing people, so of course he wants to keep his brother/dad. Based on the movies and TCW, their relationship didn't really get good until after Anakin was Knighted, and I have discovered I really like the whole Thing about complex mentor-mentee/parent-child relationships and their fallout now that the junior partner is an adult. I also like the Obi-Wan/Anakin version for extra explosions! A lot of people would suddenly find a need to ask Anakin some very concerned questions, and the fallout would be excellent.
Female Jedi Exile & Bao-Dur
Loyalty kink! What more need I say? I am 100% here for the loyal subordinate who's here for his General. I liked how he was integrated in the narrative and the central mystery of WTF went on with the Exile pre-canon. Also the mutual loyalty, where this is someone the Exile will just grab and trust unconditionally, and how their conversations were less the standard video game "hi who the fuck are you" type and more like eavesdropping on a pair of old friends conversing. It's a feeling I rarely get and I absolutely loved it.
Anakin Skywalker & Ahsoka Tano
The Clone Wars was very good for my appreciation of padawan raising schmoop. Anakin is young and has little clue what he's doing, but he's trying his best (and was already Knighted, did not just traumatically lose his father figure, and did not start out resenting his future padawan) and mostly succeeds! I liked seeing how Ahsoka went out with other people as well and ended up better integrated in the community.
...okay, two of the above were perhaps more about the canon than the relationship, but you get what I mean! Also I said I'd concentrate on gen stuff. I lied. Though I'll restrict myself to the rarer of my rarepairs.
Anakin Skywalker/Mace Windu
Anakin has a Thing for authority. He 100% has had some confusing sexual thoughts for Mace. Mace, OTOH, probably didn't think about Anakin that way, but he does canonically enjoy combat/fighting (like Anakin), and definitely deserves to have a hot young Knight give him a back massage. Couple that with Anakin's service kink, and it is a travesty that this ship has <10 fics on AO3.
Female Sith Inquisitor/Darth Zash
See above wrt padawan raising schmoop, except this is the evil version where the apprentice gets a spaceship as reward for murdering the master's enemies. Zash was so exuberantly affectionate with the Inquisitor that I couldn't help but be charmed, and then came the delicious betrayal and body theft attempt. (Also part of why I was so salty about KOTFE/KOTET – it was a total ripoff of the Sith Inquisitor plotline, except the Sith Inquisitor plot did it better.) Even after that, though, there were the cute conversations where Zash said she liked the Inquisitor enough she almost didn't go through with it. It's simultaneously fucked up and sweet and I love it! I want them to be evil Siths together forever.
(list of questions)
Well! Looks like there will be a KOTOR remake (PS5 and PC, probably out 2022 Christmas?), so in honor of that and the original KOTOR, here are my feverish thoughts on what stat builds various prequel-era characters would have under the KOTOR system. (It's a lightly-modified DnD, AFAIK.)
Obi-Wan Kenobi: All his skill points are going into Charisma. Oh, he has some in Dexterity, but his survival is based on the Cha-based saving throws. Has a Wisdom score of, like, 10, and Intelligence isn't much ahead. He thinks his skill points are going into Persuade, but that's just the Charisma buff; in actuality, he's pressing the auto level up button and they're going into Demolitions, which he never uses.
Anakin Skywalker: Spent some time as Obi-Wan's skill monkey, so he's got lots of points in Intelligence. Contrary to what reports might say, he does actually have points put into Charisma, he just keeps standing next to Obi-Wan, whose Charisma score is silly, so it looks like he doesn't have anything there. Has a good Strength score as well as some Constitution and Dexterity. Forgot to put any points into Wisdom, and somehow managed to acquire a pretty heavy debuff on it. His Repair score is terrifying.
Ahsoka Tano: Was going for a Dexterity-based melee fighter build, with some Charisma as befitting a Jedi and Intelligence as befitting Anakin's padawan, but then Order 66 happened and she started allocating all her points to Wisdom instead. Ends up having impressive scores in Computer Use, Security, Repair, and Awareness. She wishes she'd had that during the Clone Wars.
Mace Windu: Has the standard Jedi level of points in Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma (unlike Anakin and Obi-Wan), and after that built himself to be the epitome of a melee fighter. Put his skill points into Awareness save for a few in Treat Injury. Unfortunately, he decided he could leave the Persuade checks to the rest of his party and thus didn't allocate any points there.
Maul: High Constitution plus just enough Charisma to saving throw himself into surviving being cut in half. Enough Strength and Intelligence to be a formidable opponent. The Dark Side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural ... like having a -7 debuff to Wisdom.
Padmé Amidala: Vacillated a bit but had a mostly decent Scoundrel build going on. High Charisma and Dexterity, but not enough Wisdom and she thought she could skimp on the Constitution score. Died due to her low Constitution and a bad saving throw. Her main skill was Persuade, as fitting a politician, but it wasn't as high as it could've been due to her spending some skill points on things like Security.
Palpatine: Really into that Consular build. Strength? Dexterity? Constitution? Who needs that shit when you can put all your points into Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma! Has game-breaking levels of Awareness and Persuade. Survives being killed due to absurd saving throws. "+12 CHA? Amateur. You need at least +57," he says, as he saving throws his way out of dying a second time. Has the Force Storm path fully unlocked and throws around lightning like it's on a 90% off discount.

«Why is the organic auditioning for musical theater?» R2-D2 asked. The Second Battle of Felucia has just started, but Anakin's already been derailed by a lucky shot to his hyperdrive. Now, he is stuck on a vector to Sith space and has to land to make repairs. Unfortunately he seems to have picked up more than spare parts on his detour...
The end result will be about 25k long. (My word processor has different opinions on what is a word than AO3 has.) Have fun.
The other thing I wanted to post about is that when I write, I generally have a song on infinite loop. For the above fic, it was Wolfie's Just Fine - Trying to Sleep, a homage to a 90s B horror movie that is also a Dune ripoff. For another (unpublished) fic, it's The Only Thing They Fear Is You (Doom Eternal OST), which is even more incogruous with the fic I wrote, but oh well.
Fic in a Box!

In other Guardian news, I want to make a vid of Shen Wei getting whumped to Rihanna's S&M, solely because of the lyric "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but chains and whips excite me" – Shen Wei does get chained up (repeatedly) and whipped quite nicely during the show. Words have been a bit elusive lately, so audiovisual whatsit should hopefully be a change of pace.
In the realm of other stuff, I (finally) finished watching all 7 seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. I love Ahsoka Tano. Also the lightsaber battles; it's animated, so they can do much cooler stuff than in the various clips of the live action stuff I've seen. /continues to not watch any Star Wars films. Does anyone have vid recs? I liked Toy Soldiers.
