extrapenguin: A seated woman hugging another one, viewed from behind (femslash)
So I finished watching this on Monday and omg, yes, I like it. (12 episodes, 45 min each, engsubbed on YouTube)

Yan Wei is my fave, my blorbo, my precious little meow meow who can do no wrong. I think the bad-at-human-ing murder dumpling who just wants to become a normal person is amazing and I want her to have all the nice things in life. Xu Youyi is maybe the only instance of sajiao that's worked for me so far, and I absolutely loved the dynamic between them.

I also liked how the various side characters oscillated/changed position with narrative expansion between antagonist and villain. The thriller-y/murder mystery plot was good as well, and kept me engaged throughout.

Spoilers!
Okay, let's start with the one thing that did not work for me: The ending. Though mostly it confused the fuck out of me. WTF happened? Why on Earth would Yan Wei kill Xie Yifan, who is off in Beiping? I understand that for censorship reasons they might not have been allowed for Yan Wei, murderer, to walk free, but honestly that whole stated motivation of "like you, I'm leaving my past behind" ergo turning herself in didn't work – she'd already left her past behind and become a normal person. I'd rather have heard Yan Wei explain her past to Xu Youyi and then have them have the final "no secrets between us" reconciliation-conversation.

(Also I really disliked Xu Youyi trashing her typewriter. Go back to your writing! Maybe start writing books about women who leave shitty men, idk. Just ... keep doing what you love, even if you have a kid now.)

On the major secondary characters, I liked how Jiang Bin (detective dude) alternated between a sympathetic antagonist and an ally of our protagonists', before becoming something of a frienemy to Yan Wei. ("'The one that got away' except Holmes-Moriarty rather than romantic" is not a dynamic I saw myself being into, but apparently I enjoy it!) I also thought the gradual reveal of more and more of Zhou Heng's faults was well done – from just cheating with one person, to a murderer and attempted baby kidnapper.

Also, well, it's set in/around 1931 (internal timeline is ~1½ years; can't recall when in there I saw the newspaper headline). Shanghai will be invaded by the Japanese in 1937. I now want to read a war epic about what happens when war comes back for Yan Wei that I do not have the cultural competence to write.

(And WTF conflict did Yan Wei fight in? She's canonically 20, so born ~1911, and the conflict would've happened in the (late) 1920s. Her comrades are European. Most of the notable fighting in the 1920s that comes up was rebellions/warlord stuff in China, which obviously doesn't fit. I know it's probably a made-up fictional nonexistent conflict, but still. I wanna knoooow.)

Fanwork status: Will vid this. I have three vid ideas already.

Also I think I will want to make myself a Yan Wei icon.

Because I have nothing better to do on NYE and I'm procrastinating on something else, so. Here you go.

[personal profile] douqi's Sapphic Short Films carrd has, in addition to baihe sorted by setting, some sorting by lead actress. I went through the Yang Yimo (x Yang Fuyu) section yesterday for the next reincarnation vid and figured I might do the same for the other sections to see if maybe, idk, there's more to work with. Note that I just checked who the leads were for these.

I guess I'll spend some time downloading stuff off Bilibili (this downloader should work?) and searching for Sheng Wei + Ai Ye vs Yang Yimo + Yang Fuyu features to see if there's stuff douqi hasn't found yet.

As I have ANOTHER idea for a reincarnation-themed vid (one that I've been thinking about for longer than the Rey Reincarnation – Rey-incarnation? *g* – one), I went through [personal profile] douqi's Sapphic Short Films carrd's Yang Yimo & Yang Fuyu section to get stuff with the same actresses. I knew I'd have to cleancredits out the Bilibili logo and cut around the hardsubs, but here are the other notes, incl. on which of them actually have Yang Fuyu:

The Young Master and the Tea-Picking Girl: a watermark in the middle of the frame (barely visible, some frames usable ig) as well as song lyrics in variable places (visible). 5min long and very plot-light. (Actually Yang Yimo and Yu Zixuan)

I've Saved You Once Again, Little Princess! 1:36, mostly dialogue-free, very horny, has a slo-mo waist grab/dip going on. (Yang Yimo and Jiu Jing Yan)

The Hunter, or the Hunted?: 19s, but kinda spicy, definitely using this. ...actually, this is 5 videos in one! #4 has a voiceover and thus hardsubs, but everything else is usable. (#5 is solo dancing.) (Note: #1 and #2 are Sheng Wei and Qi Xiaxia, #4 is Sheng Wei and maybe Yang Yimo, no Yang Fuyu)

Fight Scene: 00:51 long, exactly what it says on the tin, no text on the screen, and also the BB logo is on a black letterbox. Amazing. I love this. (Actually Yang Yimo and Qi Xiaxia)

"You Were Once My Light": 2:46 of dark femslash (not just cinematographically!), but some of the shots with no speaking are nice. (Yang Yimo and Qi Xiaxia)

Every Moment With You Is Sweet: 3min, no dialogue/hardsubs. There's a BB logo in one corner and a more ornate one in another, but they're stationary throughout the video. Leads seem to be in a reincarnation romance already; multiple costume changes, present-day section very good for my purposes.

The Young Master and the Pauper: 3min, again song lyrics in variable places. Some might be croppable, but most not. I'll probably want to use at least the dramatic dip, the wrist grab, and the hand grab from this, as well as the definitely not kiss, though, so suffer I shall.

Xiaoshimei's Strategy Guide to Winning Her Shijie's Heart: 2:46 with the most obnoxious hardsubs known to man, but some nice handholding and faking being afraid for an excuse to cling. Def usable.

Three Hundred Years Later: 5:12. Mostly talk-y and thus hardsubbed, but there are some excellent lotion-applying scenes, as well as pinning hands to a bed and definitely a kiss.

Help, I Accidentally Stole My Shixiong's Crush! 4:19 of the adorable shimei and the shixiong's crush making eye contact, gazing dreamily at each other, playing the qin, wound treating, and running through fields – and that's just what didn't have hardsubs on it.

Led Astray by Love: 52:07, so there's definitely stuff in there. I remember some mashing face into boob, bathing together, and waist touching, at the very least.

That's 6 things with the advertised actresses, though one of them is comparatively really long – 52 min vs ~18 total for the others. The intended song, Until Eternity is, like, 4:40 (the orchestral ver is 4:19, but the vibes are not there), so I should have enough footage in there to make a vid :D

ETA: this twitter gif is highly relevant.
extrapenguin: A seated woman hugging another one, viewed from behind (femslash)
I watched s1 and s2 of Legend of Yunze (links to engsubs) and I am emotionally compromised by the ending. The seasons are both self-contained stories, ~1h each, and it's censored GL. Both leads are stunning. Had I been A-Ze, falling down naked on Jiang Zhaoyun, I too would've been desperately clingy and attempted to flirt ineptly. I liked how both of them had hidden backstory and how Zhaoyun's was handled. S1 was a bit breakneck and felt a touch disjointed as a result, but S2 was a marked improvement. The ending is sort of bittersweet, but in a way that leaves space for a third season as well as a plot hook for it.

I downloaded it for potential vidding purposes but that means I need to either a) carefully clip around the subtitles, b) zoom, or c) learn how to use Clean Credits. Urghhh.

Looking at the fansubber's Twitter, I also need to go through the lesbian short films list and see which ones are subbed. Next on my list is Nü Er Hong, which promises both a fucked-up relationship and a happy ending.

[personal profile] writingrainbow had its make-up round author reveals yesterday my time. I managed to write 3 fics, so that I'd written two fics per color! (The basic concept is that for each Writing Rainbow round, one has to write a fic where the round's color is included in the title.) So, all 14 fics, in order of the original rainbow round (2nd stories for orange, red, and robot done for the makeup round):

Blue
Abluent of the Mind (T, Guardian) Ye Zun decides to try his mind control powers on Zhao Yunlan the moment he gets out of the pillar. It does not quite go as planned.
Drowning Depths Blazing Blue (T, MDZS) Yu Ziyuan's husband has left her to deal with the newest menace alone – again. Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian have just received their swords, however, and have a desire to prove themselves and the skills to sneak out.

Purple
Purple Wisps of Greyish Mist (T, Guardian) Instead of quitting, Li Qian takes a month's break and returns to Professor Shen's care. She's glad she's there, as Professor Shen has started to be more and more stressed with all the duties piled on him. And that greyish smoke occasionally poking at him can't be a good omen, either.
A Wrong Turn Left at the Purple Forbidden Enclosure (T, Guardian) Zhao Yunlan wishes he were in a world where it all went differently. The Guardian Lantern sends him somewhere unexpected. (Ye Zun/Zhao Yunlan)

Orange
Orange Alert (T, Guardian) Zhao Yunlan was innocently contemplating the Hallows when Shen Wei strode in. Then the Hallows started playing mood music, and the world became a lot more confusing. (Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan, Ye Zun/Zhao Yunlan)
Comes the Orange Dawn (T, Guardian) The Black-Cloaked Envoy's inaugural tour of this new Dixing is perhaps much too late in the coming, but hey, that just means that Zhu Jiu can be his tour guide! Even if he has no clue what to show the Lord Envoy, oops.

Green
Once, there was a story, written in green (T, Guardian) ...and the story was based on the truth as its teller knew her. And as each story is told to an audience, the audience can discover the discrepancies in the truths presented.
My Mother is a Goose, Honking in the Green (T, Guardian) Zhao Yunlan is accosted by the villainous trio. Proceedings are interrupted by a goose falling from the skies, the plot is derailed with honking, and Zhao Yunlan discovers a deep-seated loathing of goose poop.

Yellow
Yellow Carp's Maw (T, Nan Chan) Jing Lin dares Cang Ji to eat him.
A Smile (Warm Like the Yellow Sun) (T, Sect Leader/Shimei) After their reunion in the Shuzhou town, Xiao Rufeng brings Ye Xiaoqi to the demonic sect's compound. Alas, on the way, Ye Xiaoqi ends up falling into a lake. What is Xiao Rufeng to do but remove all her clothes?

Red
Caught Red-Handed (T, MDZS) Wei Wuxian challenges Lan Wangji to a friendly duel. Then Lan Wangji's relatives turn up and congratulate them on their nuptials. WTF?
Bruises Rage-Red (E, Guardian) The Rebel Leader returns from a successful battle. Ye Zun bears the brunt of the celebrations. (Archive warning: rape/noncon)

Robot Rainbow (with AI-generated colors)
The Future Pester Pink (T, Guardian) Shen Wei and Li Qian are invited to Professor Zhou's new lab. It is not what they expected.
not so shy bather (T, MDZS) Just after waking up in Mo Xuanyu's body, Wei Wuxian stops at an inn with its own hot springs. Unfortunately for him, he runs into Nie Huaisang.
(The colors used above are Pester Pink and shy bather. Full list (gdocs))

I've had fun! There's talk of going further, into colors like black, white, teal, grey, etc, and a flash exchange with silly tags is always enjoyable.
extrapenguin: Woman in pre-Tang Dynasty official's garb reads officially. (xia dong reads)
Reads
Children of Ruin, by Adrian Tchaikovsky
A sequel to Children of Time. Thematically similar in very many respects, though I think I liked the spiders more than the octopodes. The critters of Nod were intriguing, and one of them especially felt like it belonged in an Alastair Reynolds novel. The ending was both more heartwarming and less apt than that of Children of Time. The epilogue, OTOH, was much too far in the future to feel ... good, IMO. I think this is it for the series – the epilogue sort of removed space from sequels – but I'm definitely requesting this for Yuletide, and perhaps next WBEX, if I have time to participate.

TBR pile: The Luminous Dead. The Monster Baru Cormorant.

Watches
I watched 13 episodes of The Untamed and quit. I'd read the original novel and had some issues and id mismatches with it, so the fact that the series changed things was a bonus. I did enjoy a bunch of the changes – Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji being actual friends in the past, the new yin iron plot – but I did not like it at all ) I think I might've been able to persevere had I not known via the novel what was coming, but ... no. I have much better things to do with my time. (I also can't shake off the residual bitterness that I was in the fandom back in 2018, but no-one cared back then, and everyone's only coming in when I've left.)

I'm currently 6 episodes into Motherland: Fort Salem. It has canon F/F, and the premise is that the military consists exclusively/mainly of witches, who are all women, so I get lots of women in uniform! Like all US TV, it's mumblecore and the color grading equivalent of mumblecore, which makes me really grateful for the dubbing, subs, and lack of hatred for the color green found in cdramas. It's 10 episodes long, 9 of which are out. The plot and worldbuilding are intriguing, and there is copious eye candy (oh hi Alder, oh hi Scylla, oh hi Abigail's cousin), even if I wish the actresses had bulked up a bit. My biggest complaint is the fact that there is het there. (Turns out my greatest desires include lack of het?)

To watch: I've heard good things about 沙海/Tomb of the Sea (note: eng title is a mistranslation) the TV series that's a prequel to a drama Zhu Yilong will be starring in. I might watch that if I can find it.

Rewatches
I've been rewatching Guardian with [personal profile] glymr et al! It's more of a discussion thing, but here's some things people brought up:
- When Zhao Yunlan in ep 2 tells Shen Wei he thinks they've met before, he doesn't actually think so, he's just fishing for information from Shen Wei, because Shen Wei's reaction to meeting him was so strong.
- Shen Wei seems to have completely shut down Zhu Hong's hypnotism – after the hypnotism attempt in the mountains, she doesn't use it on anyone, though she does tear a leaf from Ye Zun's book and use her powers to rip the life straight out of Mi Lu later on.
I've also introduced more people to the concepts of Shen Wei's catch and release program, prize cabbages, and the very important canon moment of episode 2, where Guo Changcheng hugs kitty Da Qing.

This time, even subbed by people who are not me! \o/

The Red Witch and Heroine Su (紅魔女與蘇女俠), trailer was linked on Tumblr with a gifset. Then YouTube, knowing me well, advertised 「The love story of Doctress and Miss rabbit (Season 2)」's trailer. (You might recognize the doctor from Sect Leader and Little Shimei's Story.) I'm wondering about the app named, Rela – both of these seem to be produced/published by it. It advertises itself as a lesbian social network/dating app all for queer women, though it's in Chinese and I'm 100% certain I'd get even less success on it than I do on Tinder. I guess I'm wondering whether it'd be worth to download just to get access to all these F/F short films – the trailers have engsubs, but idk if the actual content would have any, and I'm not at a point where I can watch stuff without the engsubs. I guess I'll have to google some more...

(Oh, and I fell further down the rabbit hole with 梦里红颜忘凋零,春风依旧 (no subs, mostly silent), woman general × little poison-something??? (someone tries to wed the general's gf and she kidnaps her right off the bridal procession, A+), and a femslash fanvid with Ye Zhao of Oh My General and someone I don't recognize. IDK if it's a crossover vid with miraculous editing or if this actually all happened in the show.)

A list of things I've written for Femslash February as of 9.2.!

Week 1
01: Prettier than the Rivers, M, Xiao Rufeng/Ye Xiaoqi
02: Gone in the Morning, T, Wang Zheng/Zhu Hong

Week 2
03: Deepest Desires, T, Li Qian/Sha Ya
04: Welcome, Spring, G, Ya Qing/Ying Chun
05: Aid, T, Lin Xia/Xiaoxiao
06: Strong as the Raging Storm, G, Xiao Rufeng/Ye Xiaoqi
07: Open, E, Xiao Rufeng/Ye Xiaoqi
08: The Reckoning Begins, E (rape), Yu Ziyuan/Wang Lingjiao
09: Self-Defense (Won't Protect the Heart), G, Wang Zheng/Zhu Hong

Observations so far:
- it's surprisingly nice to write a fic(let) every day! I'll continue, though I might have to skip days if e.g. work explodes
- 教主和小师妹的故事 | Sect Leader and Little Shimei's Story (2019) is still not a canonical fandom, woe
- people are more likely to comment if they've actually heard of the canon, so my Guardian ficlets get more response than the others
- it's remarkably chill, posting without the expectation of any feedback! Someone might click on the thing, or might not; I have achieved my brain chemicals simply from the accomplishment that is posting.

Ships to write, as soon as I get a suitable idea:
- Xia Dong/Mu Nihuang
- Cangse Sanren/Yu Ziyuan (this was my original plan for today, actually, but then today's fic happened)
- Baoshan Sanren/Lan Yi
- Ya Qing/Zhu Hong
- Cheng Xinyan/Zhu Hong
- Li Qian/Sha Ya repeat at some point

20 days to go! I think once it's March I'll make one single consolidated promo post for [community profile] sid_guardian and [community profile] theuntamed_mdzs with the fics I wrote for that fandom categorized by pairing.

I've written other things as well! Okay, ch11 of For No Cradle Lasts Forever was mostly written already last year, but I did do my edits and elaborate upon some scenes in February. And Clouds Wept (Cloudswept) (T, Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan) was written wholly in February for [community profile] brush_and_lantern's Mix-Up theme.

And I discovered that [tumblr.com profile] oriiwu drew fanart of one of my fics! Mo Xuanyu/Xue Yang, from Despite the Warning Signs. I absolutely love Xue Yang in his Jin sect robes!

I posted my 200th work onto AO3 over the weekend for [personal profile] writingrainbow's yellow round! And also my 199th. Both were for small fandoms – #199 for Nan Chan (a webnovel with the best fish): Yellow Carp's Maw (yes, it's songfic; I partied like it was 2003); #200 for Sect Leader and Little Shimei's Story: A Smile (Warm Like the Yellow Sun) (tropey femslash with wet clothes!). There are now 4 works for 教主和小师妹的故事 | Sect Leader and Little Shimei's Story (2019). I am thrilled that the fandom is growing! So many things. <3

(Then I promptly followed it up with #201, which I actually wrote back in last October: Beneath Wintry Skies, my contibution to the MDZS Seasons Zine. It's technically novel canon, but it's set far enough pre-canon that I think it'd fit the adaptations as well, if anyone's interested in reading about Yu Ziyuan.)
extrapenguin: Northern lights in blue and purple above black horizon. (Default)
Okay, I've now watched 16 episodes (one month in-universe) of Fairyland Lovers, and while it is ... Twuu Wuv: The Show (same-sex couples? never heard), it's remarkably funny! Okay, part of that is me finding the "woman trips, man catches her by the waist, there is slo-mo and peach blossoms spontaneously appear" signaling utterly hilarious, but it does have a fair number of comedy moments intentionally put in!

technically spoilers I guess )

Witness Now My Wrath, a missing scene ficlet for Sect Leader and Little Shimei's Story! I have started the fandom tag! \o/
extrapenguin: A seated woman hugging another one, viewed from behind (femslash)
The one I'm promoting is Sect Leader and Little Shimei's Story! It's a 14-minute short film where bubbly and cheerful disciple of a cultivational/martial arts sect Ye Xiaoqi wanders off, gets saved by wandering cultivator Xiao Rufeng, and follows the kuudere sect leader who saved her around. It is ridiculously adorable, the acting is great, and the main characters are hot. It also has long hair, height gaps, and swords! Google Drive folder with engsubs and .flv.

To sweeten the pot, I made some icons, presented here out of order. Some might be spoilery I guess?

(Heart texture by [personal profile] tinny, hanzi texture by [profile] whitebamboo.)
extrapenguin: A seated woman hugging another one, viewed from behind (femslash)
Do you want 14 minutes of extremely cheesy femslash, complete with falling asleep on someone's shoulder, collisions with boobs, hot looming, and blood coughing? Well, I do! And though figuring out where the hell the clips used in that MV I was obsessed with came from, I found some! Behold: Sect Leader and Little Shimei's Story. (Chinese: 教主和小师妹的故事) (ETA: Also in HD!)

Now, that is in Chinese, and while the Chinese is pretty simple, it's still Chinese, and a number of people require engsubs. Thus, in a fit of hubris, I have engsubbed the thing! Google Drive folder with subtitle download. Have fun with Demonic Sect Leader Xiao Rufeng and rebellious little disciple-sister Ye Xiaoqi! (And if you notice something wrong with the translation, please poke me so I can fix it.)

Other trivia:
- The whole production, save extras for that one scene, involved less than 10 people and had zero budget. Director-screenwriter-cinematographer-editor 知竹zZ did it all herself and paid out of pocket.
- They shot some side stories?

I made it to episode 10 of The Untamed, and, uh, Xue Yang was tied up very appealingly. I was very glad Wei Wuxian gave him a patdown, but really, maybe a strip search would've been more appropriate? :P

Biggest disappointments include Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian being insufficiently purple. It's cute how Nie Mingjue calls Lan Wangji "Wangji" instead of "Second Young Master Lan", Meng Yao really needs someone to dick him down while calling him a good buy and maybe also move to the Cloud Recesses (where insulting people's mothers is no doubt prohibited), and the main wangxian relationship is being handled really differently. They night-hunt together instead of Lan Wangji pining from afar, w00t! I approve of every change made to it so far. And Wei Wuxian got to meet his shishu in person!

Alas, I'm off for a stretch of travel and extended stays in Middle Of A Forest, Podunk, so idk when I'll get to watch episode 11.

11 days to the winter solstice, and then the days will start to get longer again. :/ Thankfully, there's still winter left after that.

IRL, I've hung stuff on the walls and should clean someday... (#slobwhatslob) Fannishly, I've procrastinated on a Yuletide treat by going through my music collection and looking at the lyrics (because I need some chapter title inspiration for For No Cradle Lasts Forever). Oh, and Writing Rainbow: Green revealed today! The Guardian fics are nice, as is my gift, Nature's First Green (MDZS, Yu Ziyuan gen). I've watched 8 episodes of The Untamed so far, and despite everything, I can feel myself acquire shippy sentiments for Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian, wtf is this??? Digging the plot changes and Wen Qing and Jiang Cheng's interactions, as well as the fact that they remembered Wei Wuxian was brilliant and had him invent a talisman all by himself! (I mean, the timeline's a bit loltastic – all this happened only 100 years ago, and no-one remembers shit? Come on.) Baoshan Sanren was hot, and I think once I'm done I'll go look up some Lan Yi/Baoshan Sanren.
extrapenguin: Wei Wuxian from The Untamed drawing a magic seal (wei wuxian)
So I decided to sign up for [community profile] sundial_exchange after all! (December will be busy, and I wasn't sure of January, but then I realized the minimum was only 500 words.) I think I sort of figured out how fill in the form? Eh, if I screwed up, I'm sure the mods will contact me. :P

In other news, I've watched the first four episodes of The Untamed, and while I do have my issues with it (the CGI is sort of uncanny valley, the juniors kept overextending their elbows in a manner I found really squicky, some stuff that works in text pings my embarrassment squick in live action, Lan Wangji makes Guo Changcheng look hot and well-acted), I have enjoyed it! The changes to plot and misc stuff have so far been intriguing rather than infuriating. As for the main relationship, I can intellectually notice that they've made the thing a whole lot more understandable and also palatable to me so far, but I'm not sure if I can actually ship it, given my baggage from the novel and the novel fandom. The one thing I do ship so far is Lan Xichen/Meng Yao – I'm pretty sure letting Meng Yao leave like that was forbidden under the rules of the Cloud Recesses; Lan Xichen should've just dicked him then and there.

(Note: while I've read the novel and have osmosed things about the drama and its emotional stuff etc, please no spoilers, especially on plot points! I'm actually intrigued by the yin metal and the whole mystery of Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji sealing the dancing goddess statue, and I'd rather be less spoiled for the drama than I was for the novel.)

I watched episode 1 of Leged of Fuyao! (On Viki.) The titular Meng Fuyao is a very irreverent servant who reminds me a bit of Wei Wuxian. I started watching the drama because I saw a gifset of her outfits on Tumblr and thought she was very pretty in them. *g* So far, she's playful, a terrible influence, and when the Sect Leader's son tells her that when he's Sect Leader, he'll marry her and no-one can bully her, she point blank asks him why he doesn't just abolish the slave class. Plotwise, there's politics going on, as this is political wuxia and there are Crown Princes in addition to jianghu sect leaders. It was interesting enough that I'll watch another few episodes at least just for Meng Fuyao.

At some point, I should check out Legend of Yangxi Palace, as I've heard lots of good things about it, including comparisons to Nirvana in Fire, and apparently it has female friendships! Alternatively, if I want whump, Bordertown Prodigal has Zhu Yilong's character suffer. (He is very good at looking good when he suffers.)

Of course, a lot of watching time is taken up by the Guardian rewatchalong, which I dedicate maybe 3 hours per week to. (The initial watching is slowed down by pausing for screencaps and note-taking, and then typing it up takes a while.) Icon-making has also made me appreciate everyone's facial shapes more, especially for Bai Yu and the dude playing Lin Jing.

Reading-wise, after bouncing off both Guardian the webnovel and Liu Yao, I have decided to give Priest a third chance with Sha Po Lang ... some time in the future. When I have infinite free time. After I've done some artsing. Maybe on my summer holiday? *g* (I'll be spending the few weeks around Midsummer with relatives in bumfuck nowhere. If there's internet enough, I might have time to read. Of course, I should also read some physical books as well, but...)

Just now, I discovered Thousand Autumns has hopped from Ainushi to elsewhere, so no wonder I haven't seen new chapters! I have six new chapters to go through! \o/

Writing-wise, my greatest problem is that I keep wanting to increase the Earth's axial tilt so that China's winters are dark and summers bright like Finland's. Have some more of the WIP that now measures ~24k and needs another ~14k to completion:
[...] Wei Wuxian accepted a toast to his tactical prowess in planning the charge, then proposed a toast to Sect Leader Jiang for making it all happen and striking the first blow against the Wen.

Jiang Cheng accepted it with an odd expression, the lantern-light casting eerie shadows on his pinched brows and set mouth. For a moment, their eyes locked, and the universe narrowed to just Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng, subordinate and his sect leader. If life were a river, they must have tumbled down a waterfall: never again could they be what they had been. No matter how hard they may paddle upstream, they couldn't ever return to their days of youth.

I guess I'm a fan of water metaphors. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

ETA: Have a gif of the Black-Cloaked Envoy's hairstyle! It is an adorable little knot.
