Hi! I'm
ExtraPenguin. Likes, DNWs, and prompts beneath the cut.
I generally prefer stories more along the lines of answering a "what if"/external things happening (e.g. There is an engineering malfunction!) to fic that's about a trope qua trope. Additionally, hurt/comfort doesn't really do anything for me.
And now, the prompts! Feel free to mix and match.
Machineries of Empire - Yoon Ha Lee Shuos Jedao
I've read everything in Hexarchate Stories (incl. Glass Cannon), so no need to worry about spoilers! I find the worldbuilding fascinating and enjoy Jedao's ability to survive and win, despite the crappiest circumstances he's been dumped in.
A Memory Called Empire - Arkady Martine Mahit Dzmare, Three Seagrass
I loved the tone and the worldbuilding and the intrigue! As well as the whole thing Mahit had about Teixcalaanli culture and poetry. Feel free to go all in on the politics and culture and femslash potential!
镇魂 | Guardian (TV) Zhu Jiu
I absolutely love the aliens and the science fiction stuff of the show! I also like the first half's cases and lightness. Ergo, Zhu Jiu, trying to take down the SID.
Note: Please don't write me anything with characterization or worldbuilding elements taken from the novel.
Uplift Series - David Brin Creideiki
My very favorite dolphin, the wily philosopher! I love the setting with its "and even the kitchen sink" attitude towards space opera worldbuilding eg the five different means of FTL travel, and the fact that the universe is vast and wondrous and has umpteen billion alien species in it. I love the dolphins, Creideiki and Hikahi and Keepiru, and Trinary and poetry.
Note: Please don't dwell on Creideiki's head injury. Mentions are fine if relevant, but don't write a fic centered on it.

- Narratives of reconstruction: fixing something, whether that be a country, a piece of equipment, a relationship, or a person. (Examples: Nirvana in Fire, Zuko's arc in Avatar: the Last Airbender)
- Journeys of discovery, whether the discoverers be the characters or the reader.
- Worldbuilding!
- Tea.
- Competence porn.
- Redemption arcs. Rehabilitative justice.
- Narratives where something happens; plot. External conflicts. Casefic.
- Comedy of Errors -type things.
- Crack taken seriously.
- Engineering, especially of the sort that keeps civilization running – sewage, maintenance, transport etc – plus fault analysis and infrastructure design stuff.
- Characters expressing caring for each other by feeding each other/giving each other tea.
- Good mentor figures/teachers who have their students' best interests at heart and succeed.
- Class issues and other tensions between origins and current presentation (eg. alien whose species is considered monsters in disguise as a human).
- Enthusiasm in general.
- Xenobiology, aliens, very alien aliens.
- Loyalty, loyalty kink, people loyal way past the point of reasonableness.
- Untitled Goose Game crossovers where the horrible goose turns up to cause problems.
- Loving descriptions of small details/of how systems run; insertion of Shown Their Work details.
- Happy endings.

DNW
- Setting change AUs (eg: Hogwarts AU, Coffee Shop AU)
- Christianity, mentions of "sinning".
- Humiliation, especially public.
- Incest, including foster/adopted relationships. (Unless requested.)
- Unrequested het ships, including Wang Zheng/Sang Zan. (People are still allowed to have parents.)
- Women getting pregnant/having children/giving up anything in favor of motherhood.
- Requested characters being presented as/rendered utterly helpless; the "damsel in distress" trope.
- Stories about mourning unwelcome changes to the body/realizations about the body, with "body" defined broadly, (ex: acquiring a disability, infertility, weight gain) and the associated grief/angst.
- Stories about mourning a dead person.
- There is a goose on the loose on the Kel space station, and it's the protagonist of the Untitled Goose Game and causing trouble on purpose! Thankfully, Shuos Jedao is here and he grew up on a farm, so Kel Command can make this his problem.
- Anything one could describe as "Shuos Jedao and the Funny Caper Story"
- Or perhaps a battle, calendrical or otherwise, with Shuos Jedao in command or advising Cheris as a ghost over her shoulder? Surely they could detour to suppress some heretics at some point.
- The post-Glass Cannon adventures of Cheris and Jedao! Do they go visit other outposts of Nirai Kujen's? What do they do with the moth information? Are they going to go find wild moths?
- What's moth culture like? Are there still wild moths nearby?
- Jedao gets laid in a consensual fashion that involves a nice guy willing to fuck him into a puddle and zero hexarchs/heptarchs.
- I'd love anything where they deal with the mystery of what's going on with the grid and the Sunless!
- Mahit goes back home and Three Seagrass is sent to the station for some reason; cue her being ??? at the station stuff and Mahit showing her around
- Mahit returns to the City after her stay at her home station. How has the political situation changed? Have Three Seagrass's loyalties changed? Is there something to rekindle there, or is there a
- What about the alien threat that's been eating pilots? Could Mahit and Three Seagrass both somehow get involved with it? What's up with the aliens, anyway?
- Any intrigue related to Eight Antidote's reign would be welcome!
- ...as would anything that tackled Teixcalaanli naming in a more in-depth fashion.
- Zhu Jiu teams up with the goose from the Untitled Goose Game and sics it onto the SID.
- Zhu Jiu decides to become a fire code inspector who harasses the SID by reporting its numerous fire code violations – from outside the door. Because there's a shield. And the exterior violates enough fire codes already; surely they can't expect the poor fire code inspector to look inside?
- (Or Zhu Jiu joins some other segment of low-level political machinery and does his best to be an annoyance for Zhao Yunlan et al with what little power he might have.)
- The baiji river dolphins didn't actually go extinct; they were all Baiji Tribe Yashou and they shapeshifted into their human form and walked out of the Yangtze when it wasn't satisfactory anymore. Then they ... get involved with Zhu Jiu/Dragon City/the SID somehow.
- Zhu Jiu gets to meet Ye Zun in the flesh! And be the Best Minion/Ye Zun's heroic rescuer from empillarment. Or perhaps desire to heal all Ye Zun's trauma with love
and his dick? Zhu Jiu/Ye Zun welcome. - Zhu Jiu discovers somehow that Ye Zun and the Envoy he so admired are twin brothers. What would the fallout be?
- Canon divergence AU where Shen Wei treats this skeptic guard member slightly differently and suddenly has a very loyal duckling who wants to take care of him and be his hero. (If you want to go to a Zhu Jiu/Shen Wei place, I'm 100% down with it.)
Uplift Series - David Brin Creideiki

Note: Please don't dwell on Creideiki's head injury. Mentions are fine if relevant, but don't write a fic centered on it.
- I'd love to see more of Creideiki & co's galactic escape adventure! How do they reach Earth?
- Does their escape adventure/some training cruise of Creideiki's go through E-Space, and perhaps yield them with some new knowledge of how E-Space works? Or do they actually encounter a mad sentient who prefers it to other modes of hyperspace travel?
- Are there still Progenitor relics to be found? Did the Progenitors all unifiedly disappear one day, or did they gradually fade out? Does their find in the Shallow Cluster lead them to another set of clues, or did Creideiki's hunch to investigate the Shallow Cluster come from some prior experience with Progenitor relics?
- How did Creideiki and Hikahi first meet? (I do ship it!)
- Do they stumble across some (illegal) Uplift process? Or a failure/"failure" of an Uplift process?
- What's it like to think in Trinary all day? What does a Trinary courtship look like? What are Creideiki's (and Hikahi's and Keepiru's) favorite wordplays?
- Do they have some additional encounters with Galactic bureaucracy, either before or after the whole "everyone wants to murder Earthclan" thing?
