I've done the first three planets (Ord Mantell, Coruscant, Taris) out of 12 so this felt as good a place as any to pause and write down some thoughts on the Smuggler storyline in SWTOR. This is Misrata (screencap album), so far pretty dark side in her decisions:

...but, uh, apparently the vaunted hilarity of the Smuggler storyline only comes out if you're playing light side. I did know to temper my expectations, but I was expecting the potential failure mode to be more "that was a joke, but I didn't find it funny" and less "where are the jokes?". So. Yeah.

Of the four stories I've played so far (Sith Inquisitor, Jedi Knight, Imperial Agent, Smuggler), the Smuggler has the best prologue! (Prologue = starter planet + capitol, in this case Ord Mantell + Coruscant.) Unfortunately, the plot gets resolved after Coruscant, so the 10 actual planets feel like an over-extended epilogue. As a result, going through Taris felt like pulling teeth.

Plotline recap: Misrata was contracted to smuggle some guns to Ord Mantell, but her employer Skavak stole the ship and guns. She picked up a random farm boy as "crew", tracked Skavak down to Coruscant, ruined his reputation, and got her ship back. This was the emotional end of the story IMO, but was actually just the prologue. Chapter 1 is apparently about tracking down some vault of riches. We got a map of sorts on Taris.

As the whole affair feels like pulling teeth, and I'd like to a) get to the end of chapter 3, and b) get to level 75 with her, I'm trying to make it more enjoyable. Apparently the LS options are funnier, so I'll try abandoning my original DS plans for a bit and see if the experience is more bearable.
Companions: 1/5 acquired. (Though one of the following ones, Risha, is sitting on my ship as a consultant of sorts.)
Corso Riggs is the farmboy I took with me from Ord Mantell. My initial impression was that he seemed pretty nice! ...then he suddenly out of the blue went "I'm a nice farmboy from the 1960s who respects the womenfolk!" and I was all "sir this is a Star Wars". He's sort of ... okay, he's a bit naïve and oblivious and idealistic, and he wears that as a badge and wields it like a cudgel. He really presses my personal raeg buttons. When I get the next companion, I'm going to leave Corso on the ship forever, and I don't even like Wookiee noises!

Corso on the lift, Misrata on the right.
Anyway, uh, good bits! The Twi'lek lekku physics are great (utterly unlike the Togruta lekku), and everything looks pretty now that I can change my graphics preset from Obsolescent Potato to Medium. Ord Mantell is perhaps my favorite of the starter planets visually. The Remnant Arkanian Smuggler's gear looks nice, though I'm still waiting on the boots.

Next update will probably contain the rest of Chapter 1: Nar Shaddaa, Tatooine, and Alderaan. Also Kurebir's go through Yavin in another post.
