My secret forbidden technique is taking notes as I watch. Also, I procrastinate from my IRL todo list by thinking about Guardian. :P
While I understand that they had to do a hasty rewrite of all the magic into tech, and the worldbuilding is more consistent in the novel, I love the batshit science fiction, and like Shen Wei as a space alien. In general, I like science fiction much more than urban fantasy. I think that I'd rather finish the TV series before thinking about the novel. (Priest's novels in general tend to make me bounce off them, even if the premise sounds interesting. I think it's something about the unrelenting grimness? I'm currently in the mood for happier things.)
