extrapenguinI watched the rest of Guardian, and the ending was even more of a downer than I'd thought based on the spoilers!
I'd correctly osmosed that Shen Wei died, but Zhao Yunlan too???? (I heard references to "Guo Changcheng really was supposed to be the wick", but thought that was related to Shen Wei's death up until the part where Zhao Yunlan sacrificed himself...)
Coherent thoughts tomorrow. Some aspects I liked, some I didn't. You can probably guess the bits I liked the least.

Date: 2018-11-09 21:40 (UTC)Yeeeah. I had no spoilers except "bad ending" for a long time, and then I gathered Shen Wei died, and then I thought at least Zhao Yunlan would live but N O P E. (On the other hand, that does give us the lovely final scene. Which. Is a huge consolation to me - in some ways it would have been worse if one of them had been left behind, having failed to save the other...)

Date: 2018-11-10 09:32 (UTC)This. Also, I think "my lover died so now I shall die" is a popular Chinese romance trope, so they made it even more romantic? And the ending just requires them to get tossed out of the time travel space via a wormhole to make it happy. No canon divergence required! This is super easy to write fixit fic for!
