Book meme pt 10
3 Sep 2016 15:06The final part.
37: A book you are scared is not going to be all you hoped it would be
Have low enough expectations and everything seems excellent! :P
More seriously, not really; if there's a dip in quality with series or authors, then it's often gradual, rather than abrupt. For new books, my attitude is more "ooh, I wonder what this'll be like" than "omg this'll be the best ever". I also generally don't hype things up before consuming them.
38: What qualities do you find annoying in a character?
Excessive dwelling upon romance to the detriment of other features. Especially with women. Look, there's already enough "women are interested only in romance!" going around, stop adding to it! Miles Vorkosigan is about my upper limit, since while he does develop crushes, he doesn't just sit around and passively mope, but actually does things (explosions) to gain their attention, AND has other things going on, like the whole loyalty and duty thing.
39: Favorite villain
Let's go with Cavilo. She's twisty and competent, and I have recent memories of her. In any case, I like competence in my heroes and villains alike.
40: Has there ever been a book you wish you could un-read?
In the sense of getting my time back, see part 7. In the sense of wanting to read again with fresh eyes, not really? I enjoy rereading the twisty tales and seeing how everything was foreshadowed.
If y'all have any wishes on what content you'd like to see from me, do tell me in the comments!
