Fandom Snowflake #6
11 Jan 2020 21:57I've sort of been pondering participating by making a fannish preferences intro post to go with my sticky, but in the meanwhile, #6 is something where the answer's not just copypasta from last year:
In your own space, make a list — anything between one and ten things is a sweet spot, but don't feel constrained by that! - of things that you wish existed in fandom, or that you'd like someone to make for you. Are you dying for podfic of your writing? Do you need icons for a character that doesn't get much fanart? Is there a story you want to read? Are you looking for new canons to get into? Would you like a collaborator for a project?
Maybe you want more people to talk about a certain fandom with, or you'd love to trade ficlets with somebody over email. Maybe you're new to a fandom and would like some recs to start reading, or communities to join. This is the time to ask!
Guardian is still the fandom of my heart, so here's my Guardian-y list:
1. More casefic! I love casefic. Especially if the villain is someone other than Ye Zun, or clever subversions where the baddie is actually a human. Or maybe The System/the Regent, but that's going a bit beyond a casefic and into politicsfic.
2. More pre-identity reveal interaction between Zhao Yunlan and the Envoy! Maybe Zhao Yunlan meets the Envoy first and ends up sort of falling for him? Or just anything with the Envoy in Envoy clothing doing something hilariously incongruous, like baking a cake. (A dark energy doohickey needs to be defused by cake-baking, so Shen Wei turns up in the Envoy persona and clothes to bake a cake at it, then feeds the cake to Zhao Yunlan?![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)

3. More worldbuilding! There's a lot of space here for Dixingian customs modern and ancient, frex, and Haixing-Dixing interactions in general, and how did the aliens turn up and what are the Hallows and why are the aliens so humanoid?
4. Fixit fics that are Man vs Society (i.e. solved by reforming Haixing and Dixing to remove Minister Gao and the Regent from power) instead of Man vs Man (i.e. solved by eliminating Ye Zun). Ye Zun is not actually the root cause of all Dixing's problems! Things won't magically be fine if he takes a hundred-year nap in his pillar!
5. Relatedly, Ye Zun getting to reform himself and be deprogrammed from the Rebel Leader's brainwashing/mind control trauma/10k years of stewing in his resentment. And Shen Wei being nice to him. This could lead to interesting fics where Ye Zun is all "you don't deserve my brother" at Zhao Yunlan and he goes into maximum bother-in-law mode by sending Zhao Yunlan off on quests to prove his devotion to Shen Wei, like some fairytale mother.
In general:
1. Badass women with swords! Like in my most recent obsession (an unofficial music video) at 0:31, 0:48, 1:10, 2:19-2:30 (2:27 especially). I suppose it's just a composite of women being pals in various cdramas, but, uh, the editing makes it very femslashy. Especially as the song is about love.
2. Fun! Humor! Narratives that don't take themselves too seriously and put some levity in instead of being at 11/10 all the time.
