SWTOR: Dark Descent

extrapenguinYesterday was patch day, and today I got to play the new story update! Imp-side only; I really should bring my Jedi Knight up to speed...
Central concept: Sith Intelligence intercepts a Republic transmission confirming Darth Malgus is on Dantooine, in the Jedi Enclave. The player character is asked to investigate with the company of Darth Rivix and Darth Krovos. Krovos was kinda refreshing, actually, as she really believed Malgus was doing stuff for the benefit of the Empire. A nice counterpoint to the stuff the player knows/can guess. I don't think we'll be able to return Malgus to the Empire – and I also don't think we'll get to defect to him, unless that can be merged into the saboteur storylines. (IDK if Midwan would be interested. She's a pretty straightforward Imperial loyalist, though she did like Malgus and his ideas way back on Ilum.)

Leeha Narezz from the Jedi Knight story returned as a flashpoint boss, but the bigger nostalgia hit was that the flashpoint was on Dantooine's Jedi Enclave ruins. The basement was great KOTOR 2 nostalgia and very pretty! It was also much nicer than the prior Mandalorian flashpoint. (Petition to replace all Mandalorians with Malgus in future flashpoints and story updates?)
Then, after Malgus has escaped (and almost brought the ceiling down on us), there's a conversation with Rivix when we eavesdrop on him telling Acina about intel he really should have told us as well. You get to crowd up on him and growl! It worked really well with Midwan and her new, bulkier armor. (...which, I now realize, is the armor Malora wore on her Ossus appearance. I think.) Very good, would crowd up on the other Sith again.
Malgus has stolen a book from Ossus and an artefact from Dantooine. Given the whole video game rule of three thing, I think the next update will be that he's stolen a third thingy/we get to face off against him just as he's making off with the third thingy, and then the subsequent appearance will be us stopping him from combining the power of the three Force artefacts/McGuffins. Other people have pointed out the possibile option of us joining him (unlikely imo, unless they can merge it into the generic saboteur plot), as well as Darth Krovos joining him (as she's still loyal) or potentially Malora (since she was given a lot of detail for such a short appearance on Ossus and is likely going to reappear in a later expansion).
The next story update might be about Mandalorians (though please let it not be a flashpoint), or they might keep that on the back burner while dealing with Malgus vs alternating the things. It might depend on how much other stuff they have to set up. I think the original plan for SWTOR must've been to have an expansion out in Dec (for the game's 10th anniversary), but given COVID, I think it's going to just be an expansion announcement + maybe a small story update.
