Vidding Year in Review

As I am now A Vidder ig, I am going to also do a vid review. I made 7 vids! All of them are some variety of Star Wars.

My favorite vid of the year
Reincarnation. No contest. It's the thing I dreamed up in January 2023 and spent the rest of the year until August clipping for and grinding. I even got seekingferret to beta it. Then I heard of fanworks and decided to premere it there to a great reception.

Least favorite vid
Resisting Fate. It is perfectly adequate. It is simply not as good as everything else I made this year.

Most successful vid
Reincarnation. It deserves it.

Vid most under-appreciated by the universe
Reincarnation- Okay, the real answer is ... Come What May, I think. The song isn't in English and the source is a video game no-one has played.

Most fun vid
Reincarnation (all those motion matches!), with You Know My Name as a runner-up. I think bouncy lightsaber fights are fun to vid and to watch.

Video with the single sexiest moment
I think all the cross-trilogy motion matches in Reincarnation are very sexy actually

Hardest vid to make
All the clipping for Reincarnation. The vid itself required a lot of effort, too, with finding all the motion matches, but it was extremely enjoyable.

Most unintentionally telling vid
Honestly nothing strikes me as being that telling, unintentionally or not. Maybe Come What May, due to the music choice + lyrics? Or possibly Reincarnation, as me going all in on a take my beta told me was kind of out there, which is exactly what my fic output is like at its best. (Watch me disappear up my ass in vidding as well.)

Things I've learned
How to do compositing and alpha masks in kdenlive (Begin Again). My narrative work has also improved from me tackling a song with very repetitive lyrics (Burn It Down) and an instrumental (Culmination), as well as me making a constructed reality vid (Return to the Sea; unreleased but mostly done). Also that I can make a very dense text and trust viewers to keep up (Reincarnation).

Vid plans for 2024
I'll finish my vid_bingo card (row with instrumental square done). As mentioned in my more holistic retrospective/planning post, this'll feature:
- Return to the Sea. A Rey/Leia vid to Sirens - Of Blood and Water by Epica. Technically done, but I need to rip out and redo the first verse.
- character study of [redacted] to [redacted] by Unleash the Archers. I have a planning A4 with the lyrics and the outline is there; I just need to clip the footage.
- the reincarnation romance project to Until Eternity by Blackbriar. I need to decide on the source set (Sheng Wei x Ai Ye or Yang Yimo x Yang Fuyu) and figure out how to run cleancredits.
- 00's music. Possibly a Rey vid to either Mortalitas Part IV: From Beneath You It Devours by Nemesea or Show Me the Way by Elis (or the shorter version or original version of the latter). Leaning towards using the shorter version now actually, whether I use it for Rey or someone else.

Other than that, well, if I can't make the Rey vid to Mortalitas IV, I'll search out some more music about rejecting legacies/(grand)daughters hating (grand)fathers and try to make a Rey Palpatine vid. I'll also make a premiere for at least one convention. And see about vidding something that isn't a Star Wars.
