AKA Does Anybody Read This Journal?

philomytha :
Ask me a question about one of my fics or series. It can be absolutely anything in any project and I will tell you the honest-to-goodness answer (even on the progress/plans for next chapters of current series).
Don't hold back. Whatever you ask, I'll answer as truthfully and as completely as possible. You can also ask about my writing as a whole, if you like.
Ask me about headcanon. Ask me about character interpretations. Ask me about something.

Date: 2013-09-23 05:15 (UTC)Martya's name-fic came mostly from a low-grade irritation I've always had re: the Koudelka sisters' names. One day, I decided to write it. And since all the other Koudelka sisters had one canon namesake and poor Martya had none, I gave her two.
As for Empress Martya, well, she's another of canon's missing women. The only thing we know about her is that she's Mad Yuri's sister. So many interesting possible plots! I haven't really put details on her bio, but here's the bones of it: she was born a bit before Dorca's unification, her mother dying in childbirth. (Dorca remarried almost immediately.) She contributed to the war effort by transmitting intelligence from town to town to wilderness and hiding her brother. At some point she married a fellow courier, and they had at least one child. He died towards the end of the war. She was able to secure prosperous marriages for her daughters (she had no sons). During Yuri's war, Ezar approached her with a proposal. (I view Yuri as having pretty much forgotten her.) Then multiple rounds of negotiating happened, and she married Ezar, gave birth to Serg, and walked away from Barrayar. She's probably dead by now, of old age if nothing else. Alternatively, she's Cavilo. (...no. She isn't.)
All of that is all very interesting and ficcable, except I currently have no idea how to write it! (Status might change.) (Though if I'm going to write her as Cavilo, I must include a scene where Gregor finds out. And Laisa giggles at Gregor's freaking out.) So: consider her and her stories fair game for ficcing and/or speculation!

Date: 2013-09-23 14:09 (UTC)Though from what I've projected, she's much more competent than Cavilo/wouldn't want to be Empress of Barrayar again. But Cavilo-as-Serg's-sister would be a very... interesting fic. I just have no idea how to write it!

Date: 2013-09-24 18:53 (UTC)Cavilo and Serg probably have more similarity than we'd like to admit. Greed for power, shiftiness, tolerance for cruelty, strange taste in bed partners. This is sounding less and less like a family I want Martya to be from. We might have to spin this off into a much different story!
