Eps 1-2 subbed on Viki! So far, it's less WTF-inducing in introduction than NIF (much smaller character herd), and I think they had a higher budget for all the battle scenes (unless the ep1 battle is the Only Battle Scene Ever, in which case way to be misleading). If you want further relationship kinda-spoilers, I translated the pre-release family tree/relationship web, seen here. (I may not speak Chinese, but I'm real good at using a dictionary!)

Pingzhang and Pingjing really do love each other! A sibling relationship! The family dynamics are, well, I am sure that Tingsheng loves Pingjing, but Tingsheng confessed out loud that Pingzhang is the favorite son, which I'm sure is breaking some rule of parenting. They do seem to like each other.

We got more info on the three kids from the Servants' Prison who defeated Baili Qi! They're Lu Yuan, Xiao Tingsheng, and Lin Shen. Only Tingsheng is alive now, since military life, and Lin Shen betrothed his daughter to Pingjing on his deathbed. Lin Shen's wife Disapproved and ran off with said kid, and have yet to be found. Based on Master Li's comments to Tingsheng and Lin Xi, I am 99% sure that said kid was taken in by Master Li and is now known as Lin Xi. Master Li is a medic, and Lin Xi is his bestest apprentice. She's cool and calm and efficient, and I love her already. (She also dresses very well in white and vivid blue!)

Pingjing, OTOH, really needs some character development. You're lucky you're cute, Pingjing. (It is Very Rare to see a man as facially RTMI as Liu Haoran.) He really needs to learn how to stop talking after he's started and get some grip on honor, duty, and the fact that laws are there for a reason. Being raised by Lin Chen really wasn't the wisest choice for him, Tingsheng.

Tingsheng and the Emperor's dynamic is exactly as showcased in that little clip at the end of NiF. The ministers disapprove, and Minister Song apparently tried to slow down Pingzhang's supply ship a bit – only for the ships to sink and Da Yu use that as an opportunity to invade. Conclusion: Da Yu has a spy somewhere. Also, Minister Song and ...Grand Secretariat? person should know that discussion treason in the Imperial Palace where others can hear is a terrible idea.

The battle was a good example of pre-modern warfare tactics, with the importance of formations and arrows! The spears to pull away the archers' platform were a thing I hadn't encountered before. The cinematography was well-done – I could actually figure out WTF was happening! Pingzhang's second-in-command was endearingly loyal, and Pingzhang willpowering himself back to life after getting shot by two arrows was, um, unintentionally hilarious. (Lin Xi saved him later, then went to treat the other wounded.) The entire series opened with a post-battle shot, and yay something that actually sort of touches/showcases the aftermath of the battle, with people picking up arrows etc.
