Guardian icons!

Guardian icon post, with Shen Weis, Zhao Yunlans, and Ye Zuns! Taken from episodes 12, 22, 39, and 40. I experimented with different sorts of cropping for this one; some icons are available in multiple compositions. Including the variants, there are 24 Shen Weis, 20 Ye Zuns, and 8 Zhao Yunlans. Two have been featured before.

One thing I'd like to see is meta on icon composition, and how different cropping can produce an entirely different feel to the resultant scene, so, if you want to talk about that, please do! I don't think I have any post starter comments for that discussion, though, beyond the examples in iconization. And thank you for bearing with my formatting editing; have a yoga instructor Ye Zun as compensation.

Ye Zun has the best faces! I even had to reject a few because they weren't cool enough, and I didn't want to have, like, 24 Shen Weis, 8 Zhao Yunlans, and 57 Ye Zuns. That'd have been disproportionate. Ye Zun #14 was only visible for like two frames, but I just had to pause there to get the perfect >:c expression. (It's from just before Shen Wei jumps in front of a blast for Zhao Yunlan.) Also, your icon inspires me to start some sort of "Ye Zun says things" edit collection. #10 would fit "OMG" very well, but I have no tiiiime these days.

It is such a devastating scene. I especially like it cinematographically – Shen Wei is warm-toned, and his background is cool-toned, and he's also boxed in by the gate thingy, so we see Shen Wei as someone with limited choices, alienated from the world.

He does, he's in a fraction of the episodes Shen Wei is and I've got similar numbers of screencaps of both of them. And thanks for where to find that expression!

And yes! OMG would totally work- Honestly I never remember to use mood sets on LJ/DW, but Ye Zun would be a prime candidate to make one with.

The rain- the movement of his hands, and his jaw, before he kneels, and then the way he's sort of swaying under the force of the rain- he makes it feel cold, just to look at, without shivering, and you're completely right about the isolation of the little gated forecourt.

That entire half minute of shot had a lot of excellent expressions! He's definitely a lot more mercurial in his facial expression than Shen Wei.

WAIT mood sets are a thing? Ye Zun would very much be a good candidate for one. He has so many expressions all the time. (I also need moar Guardian icons. I'm a paid user, I can get up to 100...)

Yeah, you can custom design mood sets instead of the default little animal emoticons DW has -like this one with Gabriel from SPN. It wants a character who has a huge range of expressions, he'd be perfect.

OMG I didn't know those were a thing! Ye Zun really would be perfect for that, though idk if I have the time to start screencapping all of the Ye Zuns... next month?? "Horny" would definitely be when he's in his Sexy Shen Wei cosplay, trying to flirt with Zhao Yunlan.
