Guardian icons!
31 Jan 2019 16:11Guardian icon post, with Shen Weis, Zhao Yunlans, and Ye Zuns! Taken from episodes 12, 22, 39, and 40. I experimented with different sorts of cropping for this one; some icons are available in multiple compositions. Including the variants, there are 24 Shen Weis, 20 Ye Zuns, and 8 Zhao Yunlans. Two have been featured before.

One thing I'd like to see is meta on icon composition, and how different cropping can produce an entirely different feel to the resultant scene, so, if you want to talk about that, please do! I don't think I have any post starter comments for that discussion, though, beyond the examples in iconization. And thank you for bearing with my formatting editing; have a yoga instructor Ye Zun as compensation.

I love the way you phrased that, somehow. :-) The more, the better!

Date: 2019-01-31 14:34 (UTC)Ahahaha 8 Zhao Yunlans trying to stop 20 Ye Zuns would be too cruel. Though each of the Yunlans would have exactly 3 Shen Weis fussing over him, which would be an ... interesting sight to behold.

I tend to think the Ye Zuns would take each other out, which would leave the Shen Weis to fuss and scold and smile fondly and tuck in to their heart's content... what an interesting mental image that is. :-)

Date: 2019-01-31 15:16 (UTC)The Zhao Yunlans would be all Zhao Yunlan #8 about it, even if there were a plethora of Shen Weis fussing over them. Unless they started competing about whose turn it was to tuck in the Zhao Yunlan...
The Shen Weis would no doubt come up with a sensible schedule enabling them to cook, clean, guard and take care of Zhao Yunlan efficiently... and the question of whose turn it was to be tucking in their Zhao Yunlan would be rigidly regulated. Otherwise, the steely but seemingly polite arguments might get out of hand, and nobody wants that.
And yes, the Zhao Yunlans would be very #8. Poor souls. They might never get a chance to escape and fondle the Hallows again!

Date: 2019-01-31 16:02 (UTC)I expect the Zhao Yunlans would all organize amongst themselves (and the Ye Zuns?) to give one of them a chance to escape to fondle the Hallows so that they might all collapse back into one again! Then there'd be only one Shen Wei to fuss over one Zhao Yunlan and one therapied-up Ye Zun, which would require much less scheduling...

Date: 2019-01-31 16:11 (UTC)I suspect the Shen Weis might get very snippy and passive-aggressive with each other after a while. There just aren't enough Zhao Yunlans to go around! Under those conditions, even the best and most strictly regulated schedule will struggle...
Heee, yes. Nothing can keep a Zhao Yunlan from touching the Hallows. Not even 24 Shen Weis. ;-) (Solo and I dubbed the man Hallows Boy when we were watching the series for the first time - seriously, the man just cannot keep his mitts off those potentially lethal artifacts!)

Date: 2019-01-31 16:22 (UTC):D This is hilarious! Ye Zun acquires all of his own powers 16 times? Perhaps he becomes better at digesting people?
The Shen Weis would definitely get very snippy and passive-aggressive, commenting on anything seen as not obeying the schedule, even if the delay was of seconds. The Zhao Yunlans would definitely want to fix the mess. Darn, now I want this in a fic! Sigh.

Date: 2019-01-31 14:59 (UTC)Cute baby Shen Wei is the cutest! It seems I'll have to screencap and iconize him more, should I ever make a second icons post.

Date: 2019-01-31 15:03 (UTC)They both look SO different (and so beautiful) with those wigs. It totally transforms their faces and I am 100% on board.

Date: 2019-01-31 15:16 (UTC)Ahh yes they do! Zhu Yilong especially looks very different in his Shen Wei garb vs Shen Wei with wet hair vs bb Shen Wei vs Ye Zun wig. And Bai Yu looks much better when one can see his forehead – I did not see the appeal until the hair-parting, lol. (Another thing I noticed is that compared to Shen Wei, Ye Zun's always wide-eyed, and very often :o as well. Even when Ye Zun is pretending to be his brother.)

Date: 2019-01-31 15:33 (UTC)And also like, I'm just relying on other people's word to believe this is Zhu Yilong:
In sum, they are amazing in period pieces.

Date: 2019-01-31 15:36 (UTC)RIGHT? Zhu Yilong is a CHAMELEON. He changes his face so much! Not just when he is one character (you can always always tell what he's feeling as Shen Wei/Black Cloak) but playing three different roles in Guardian. It is excellent.

Date: 2019-01-31 16:09 (UTC)Yeah Zhu Yilong is a very dedicated actor – AFAIK he went and gained weight for that role, which of course shows on his face, in addition to the fact that the wig people gave him a different hairline.

Date: 2019-02-01 17:59 (UTC)It is such a devastating scene. I especially like it cinematographically – Shen Wei is warm-toned, and his background is cool-toned, and he's also boxed in by the gate thingy, so we see Shen Wei as someone with limited choices, alienated from the world.

Date: 2019-02-02 02:22 (UTC)And yes! OMG would totally work- Honestly I never remember to use mood sets on LJ/DW, but Ye Zun would be a prime candidate to make one with.
The rain- the movement of his hands, and his jaw, before he kneels, and then the way he's sort of swaying under the force of the rain- he makes it feel cold, just to look at, without shivering, and you're completely right about the isolation of the little gated forecourt.

Date: 2019-02-02 14:57 (UTC)WAIT mood sets are a thing? Ye Zun would very much be a good candidate for one. He has so many expressions all the time. (I also need moar Guardian icons. I'm a paid user, I can get up to 100...)

Date: 2019-02-03 12:27 (UTC)next month??"Horny" would definitely be when he's in his Sexy Shen Wei cosplay, trying to flirt with Zhao Yunlan.no subject
Date: 2019-02-02 04:25 (UTC)The comments above made me think of a silly question: would 20 Ye Zuns trying to snort each other create a black hole? A worm hole?
(And a less silly one: Multiple Shen Weis mean that Shen Wei would get an "outsider" perspective on his role as BCE and the masks he wears and that's... probably not something he would like.)
no subject
Date: 2019-02-02 15:14 (UTC)This is a very good question! If two Ye Zuns try to absorb each other, starting at exactly the same moment, at exactly the same speed, do they become an ouroboros of absorption? Or do they strip each other of energy before they can assimilate it, leading to a kaboom of black energy? Questions must be asked! Too bad this wouldn't get through any sort of ethics committee...
Oh, yeah, that as well. Now I want something where Shen Wei gets momentarily duplicated, then has to face uncomfortable realizations about himself.
