I've Worldconned! I fly back tomorrow morning, which means waking up at ass AM because Dublin airport.

I've been to more panels than I can count; I've been on two panels, and I've met schneefink and naye - hi! One of the people involved with NZ 2020 inquired about my travel plans for next August after listening to one of my panels, and many folks were happy to tell me they enjoyed my panels. Whatever Worldcon ends up being the next one I go to, I'll definitely aply for panelist-ing there.

There was also a lot of enjoyable conversation in the queues! This morning we discussed renting either a university or an airport for Worldcon purposes. Universities would be designed for Worldcon-typical population movements, while airports would have enough queueing barrier tech. Plus the airstrip would be long enough for the George RR Martin signing queue.

I got two books signed by Yoon Ha Lee, tripling my signed books collection! (Their only predecessor was OE Lönnberg's Langanpäitä, a collection of very short stories.) I am very glad I chose Revenant Gun as my airplane reafing. The other book I read in the queues was Arkady Martine's A Memory Called Empire, which I loved and recommend. I'll read my brand-new Hexarchate Stories on the way back.

Sounds like an exciting and successful time! I didn't know much about WorldCon until suddenly it was EVERYWHERE, but now I'm curious about your panel notes. Have a good trip back!

It was mostly in the US for a long stretch, IIRC? Then it spread to Europe again, and at a similarish time there might've been a push to include more transformative-fandom stuff that lead to transformative fandom talking about it more?

Dublin Airport is terrible. "Arrive 3h beforehand! Oops, baggage drop only opens 2h beforehand!" Argh.

Yay, I'm glad you had a good time. <3 I've been eyeing A Memory Called Empire, so the rec is good news. XD Is Revenant Gun a good place to start with Yoon Ha Lee? (Congrats on the signing btw!) Because I've been eyeing those books as well and waffling over where to start.

Revenant Gun is book 3 of a trilogy, so no, don't start there. :P Start with Ninefox Gambit instead, then Raven Stratagem, then Revenant Gun (and then Hexarchate Stories, which is a collection of shorts that includes one that's sort of a sequel to Revenant Gun.) As for A Memory Called Empire, if the descriptions sound like your thing at all, read it.

Worldcon was lots of fun! :D It'll come to Europe again in the 2020s, so maybe you can meet naye there? :P
