...yes, "rewatch an episode" is a free space. And I already had some plans to chat about one of my fanworks, so now I have to just post about a specific scene/episode on my own DW, write an AU fanwork, and do the Awl challenge of bringing something old back by e.g. commenting on an old discussion post/fanwork. Or rec an old fanwork. (Seriously, this fandom is barely a year old, I don't think anything counts as old. Unless we discover that Guardian fandom did the time loop thing like Yunlan did and the Epic of Gilgamesh is actually AU weilan fic.) I think I'll start with the rightmost column and maybe then the leftmost column or the Guardian Lantern row?

I looked it up on Wikipedia, and

The first half of the story discusses Gilgamesh, king of Uruk, and Enkidu, a wild man created by the gods to stop Gilgamesh from oppressing the people of Uruk. After Enkidu becomes civilized through sexual initiation with a prostitute, he travels to Uruk, where he challenges Gilgamesh to a test of strength. Gilgamesh wins the contest; nonetheless, the two become friends. Together, they make a six-day journey to the legendary Cedar Forest, where they plan to slay the Guardian, Humbaba the Terrible, and cut down the sacred Cedar. The goddess Ishtar sends the Bull of Heaven to punish Gilgamesh for spurning her advances. Gilgamesh and Enkidu kill the Bull of Heaven after which the gods decide to sentence Enkidu to death and kill him.

In the second half of the epic, distress over Enkidu's death causes Gilgamesh to undertake a long and perilous journey to discover the secret of eternal life. He eventually learns that "Life, which you look for, you will never find. For when the gods created man, they let death be his share, and life withheld in their own hands". However, because of his great building projects, his account of Siduri's advice, and what the immortal man Utnapishtim told him about the Great Flood, Gilgamesh's fame survived well after his death with expanding interest in the Gilgamesh story which has been translated into many languages and is featured in works of popular fiction.

...how the fuck does one adapt that to Guardian fic. How. Someone else, plz?

I actually started Gilgamesh fic for Highlander once! (It fits that canon much better imo.) But then I went on to other things.

Yeah, a Gilgamesh AU would be hard to finagle, unless you make Zhao Xinci the King of Uruk and Zhao Yunlan a composite Gilgamesh/prostitute who civilized Enkidu. The plot just doesn't fit the Guardian characters that well.

It would! Now I'm looking at the Wikipedia article on the Epic of Gilgamesh. And Gilgamesh, two-thirds god and one-third man ... I think I want Professor of Bioengineering Shen Wei to turn up and explain to me how that works. *g*

Okay, I guess it might work as Zhao Yunlan being the king of Uruk and Shen Wei having just woken up from his dirt nap (where he slumbered through the flood which stands in for the meteor as well here) and uh. It'd of course diverge from the plot of both Guardian and the Epic of Gilgamesh from there, because characters and setting, etc. But someone else should write it, and by someone else I mean anyone but me. :P

Yeah, the "old" thing. I decided to go the easy route and rec some old fanworks for one of my awl squares, and then I decided to make the free Hallow square also an Awl and "bring back" guardiandaily. I haven't posted there in four months (except once last week).

So for me, four months must be old. Right? :)
