lannamichaels,
solo, and absolutely everyone on my friends list, apparently. Rules:
1. Comment to this entry saying 'Today we're cancelling the apocalypse' and I will pick 3 of your icons/userpics.
2. Make an entry in your own journal (or just reply if you prefer) and talk about the icons I picked.
So, I asked 2 people and got 5 icons (there was overlap).
lannamichaels's picks first, then the overlap, then
solo's.

This was my prior default icon. The first one was a random horse image I'd found and cropped, and I was having a minor identity crisis (as one does), so I took a look at my
space_swap mod icon (horsehead nebula in hat) and edited it a bit to be cool-toned and swapped out the hat. It served me well enough, but I think my current default is more aesthetically pleasing and also more me.

The people here are Yoko Tsuno and Khâny, from the Yoko Tsuno comic albums by Roger Leloup! Back when I was a kid, after school, I'd go to the library to read in lieu of any structured after-school activity, which is how I was introduced to these. I don't think they've been properly translated into English, alas – they were very foundational to my tastes. Yoko Tsuno is an electrical engineer with a knack for befriending people (mostly women) and consequently a wide variety of friends worldwide. Her adventures include more real-world-y things like stopping superweapons, as well as time travel and travel to outer space. She deals with things analytically but with compassion, and hits the ground running. Her longtime friend Khâny (with whom I ship her) is a leader of sorts for a group of aliens, the Vinéans, who arrived millions(?) of years ago and live in caverns under the surface. The first adventure is Yoko meeting her while cave diving. Oh, and she also has a twin, and spent a long time in hibernation. (It's okay, Guardian fandom, you can play the laugh track now. *g*) They're originally French, so if you read French or any of the languages the series has been translated to, go take a look!

This (very popular, apparently!) icon was made for an
icons10in20 challenge, prompt "3 images in 1". Zhu Jiu/Ye Zun is one of my ultra-rare ships, and I had the idea of Zhu Jiu excitedly explaining his self-insert fantasies to someone and ended up with this. I'm proud of it, even if it's a bit ... what it is. Please spot the subtle heart shape behind Ye Zun and the uppermost Zhu Jiu.

This is Xia Dong from Nirvana in Fire. The icon came about when I felt I was missing an icon for a declarative mood; it's a nice icon to use when the content doesn't suggest a different sort of icon. (I mostly pick icons based on topic, rather than emotion. Whether this is just preference or some fundamental difficulty in converting brain chemicals into external signals is left as an exercise to the reader.) Xia Dong is also one of my favorites from Nirvana in Fire, even if I didn't like the fact there was canon het for her.

With all the tea I drink, I decided I really needed an icon for tea. I went and searched pixabay for a nice one and found the source image, which I then cropped.
