Lots of characters pine beautifully, but pain is inherent to pining – to yearn deeply; suffer with longing; long painfully – and sometimes one needs something different. Say, a character, reminded of their love interest's existence, becomes overjoyed. A character blanketed in a reminder of their darling's love. And this should be called larching. Usage example: After they got together, Shen Wei stopped pining and started larching instead.

In the interest of full disclosure, I also said I liked "larch" better because of Monty Python. ^^;; Is Shen Wei larching in that scene where he puts his suit jacket over Zhao Yunlan, do you suppose?

Cedaring? No, wait: SPRUCING! Because they spruce up and become joyful instead of sorrowful. :D

ratbones and I decided against sprucing as it already meant something, so I looked out my window and thought about the name of the next coniferous tree. :D

Hmm, if we accept that pining is pining, I wonder what yewing could be?

Yes! Exactly. Hanahaki would fit, but also things like "I know this quest is doomed and anyone who goes with them will die too, but I am not letting them go alone" and "I have arranged matters so that the enemy gets to the object of my pining only literally over my dead body."
