A Realization
6 Feb 2020 09:44Some while ago, I realized why I dislike Guardian drama-novel fusions even more than I usually dislike obligate crossovers! I also meant to share with DW but forgot. *g*
Basically, one of the themes I really like about Guardian the TV series is the fact that Dixingians are something of a metaphor for immigrants/migrant workers, and the show treats them as just as human as the Haixingians. Whereas a lot of the novel worldbuilding fusions end up going "but what if the immigrants were literal demons from Hell", which is one hell of an unfortunate implication. (And one that's extra uncomfortable for me.)
