Writing a fic (Every Door a Death) and thinkiung about the pacing by chapters is kinda wild, after an eternity writing the whole fic and slapping chapter breaks onto it in post. I have chapter one written, and chapters 2 and n planned. There'll need to be at least two chapters of connective tissue in there, hopefully more, but at my 4-5k chapters, this looks to be at least 20-25k but definitely under 50k. (This is a good thing! For No Cradle Lasts Forever at its 75k is a nice feather on the cap, but 75k a) takes forever to write, and b) is impossible to edit in one sitting, so the juggling act is much wobblier.) It also feels like a tighter drive than my previous longer projects have been – let's see how it ends up being.
Out of curiosity, if you came across a Guardian fic titled Every Door a Death (Weilan, E, casefic, Choose Not to Warn), what sort of fic would you expect?
In unrelated news, someone compiled a compendium of Xiao Zhan's (and his fans') behavior that led to AO3 getting banned in China. Mostly untranslated Chinese, but some highlights have been translated into English. As someone unconnected with any idol fandoms and whose Chinese isn't good enough to understand, idk about the veracity, but it was a nice enough thing to popcorn about.
IRL ... well. My main social outlet is cancelled for the rest of the month. (With good reason, as the main organizers are in risk groups.) I've also been doing mainly stuff I need to be physically present for at work, so I can save the stuff that doesn't require my presence for working from home. I'm in no risk group, so I can still go to work without fear, but at this point I'm waiting for the inevitable quarantine in a week or two. And before Worldcon, I have stuff abroad scheduled for May and June; I have no idea if either of them is actually going to happen at this point. This means I'm eyeing
fandom5k – I may not be able to plan my RL, but I can plan my exchange participation!
