extrapenguinI just brought my third character (my Imperial Agent) through the Knights of the Fallen Empire/Knights of the Eternal Throne expansions and will head off to Iokath with her soonish. I do want to eventually bring at least one character from each class (of which there are eight) to the present – or at least through KOTFE/KOTET and the prior expansion for the achievements. The trouble is, whom?
Full story order chart. Story segments briefly:
Class story (everyone's done with this)
Ilum (short, some are here)
Makeb
Oricon (short)
Forged Alliances (short)
Shadow of Revan
Ziost (shortish)
KotFE (way too long)
KotET (way too long – Agent is done with this now)
Iokath (short)

present (Knight & Inquisitor are here)
There's a class-specific sidequest in SoR that has an achievement for each class sidequest. The KotFE expansion has a little arena associated that gives an achievement for completing it with each class.
Jedi Consular – hasn't started Ilum; light side
Pros: stealth for skipping stuff, I like the shadow playstyles for both tank spec and serenity
Cons: hasn't done the various raid quests I'd like to do before heading to Oricon and it can be hard to raid on Republic side in my current guild, I already have two light side characters through the expansions and some of the LS choices are fucking idiotic
Trooper – partway through Ilum; dark side/war crimes
Pros: done with all the raid quests so I can do Oricon without fear
Cons: I hate the vanguard playstyle (I guess I should look at dps specs)
Smuggler – hasn't started Ilum; dark side
Pros: ...stealth for avoiding stuff? I also would just skip straight to Shadow of Revan with this one, as I'd only be bringing her through SoR and KotFE/KotET for the two class-specific achievements.
Cons: I absolutely loathe the scoundrel playstyle, ruffian and scrapper both; very bad fit for some of the expansion plotlines
Sith Warrior – done with Ilum and Oricon, hasn't done Makeb; light side
Pros: I love the immortal juggernaut playstyle, good fit for expansion storylines
Cons: no stealth, 3 Imp vs 1 Rep character plot-current is a bit asymmetric, I already have two light side characters through the expansions and some of the LS choices are fucking idiotic
Bounty Hunter – hasn't started Ilum; neutral
Pros: ...I guess I could get all the "level X bounty hunter" achievements this way? Everyone else is at the level cap, this one's ~55 or something. I might do as with the Smuggler and skip stuff.
Cons: I hate the powertech playstyle (I guess I should look at dps specs), very bad fit for some of the expansion plotlines
As for bringing two characters current at the same time – Makeb has two different plots based on faction, but the rest has been basically merged. And if I do KotFE/KotET twice in a row I will probably end up killing someone.
(You might notice that I love my Consular and Warrior a whole lot more than my Smuggler and BH. What can I say? I like the combo of good story + enjoyable combat a lot more than bad story + intolerable combat.)
