vexercises is still ongoing. The penultimate challenge, minor characters or response fanvid, is currently ongoing and I just submitted my fill. However! I live one exercise in the future and have decided that for the final exercise, the free vid, I will be continuing with the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy and vid Padmé Amidala/Anakin Skywalker to Common People by Pulp. Or one of the covers!

William Shatner version! I think the first verse works much better as spoken poetry than as song, actually, and the instrumentation is miles more interesting. OTOH, idk if the voice fits for Anakin POV. Basically this is my favorite version of the song, to my immense surprise, but does it fit the vid?

I also listened to the My Chemical Romance one but I didn't vibe with the distortion they used on the singer's voice. The other covers seem to be all acoustic, which I DNW, and one is by a woman, which is not what I want for this vid.

The use of a performer most commonly associated with Star Trek would create a delightful dichotomy that the usage of the Pulp original couldn't match. Also, I read someone's description of the Shatner cover as being a lot of fun because he makes it sounds like he's recounting the story to you over, rather than singing a song.

Great! I was worried the dichotomy would be jarring, but OTOH that would be a nice little easter egg to people who realize what cover it was, wouldn't it? And I agree with that description of the cover.
