Vid: Start a War (Star Wars Prequel Trilogy)

I finished up the vid I was talking about yesterday with some minor color grading and put it on AO3. Start a War, T-rated, Padmé as a POV character of sorts, but really it's about Palpatine the Warbringer.

I've also gone on a dive through some really archaic vid meta, like this Wiscon vidparty references link, laurashapiro's Why the Average Popsong Makes for a Boring Vid, another references post party, and storytelling and narrative. And I guess I'm not properly a part of the Vividcon vid tradition, since some of the narrative/storytelling talk seems to go over my head, but idk if it's something like me kinda knowing what they'd be doing on an instinctual level if not on the verbal, or if it's because I (like most modern vidders) am also a product of the AMV tradition, which treats the music-clip matching process differently.

Thanks for the links--these are all really interesting reading! Like you, I came to video editing through watching copious AMVs, so it's fascinating to see the different attitudes and styles in the live-action fanvid tradition. I also really like fast upbeat pop songs, and I tend to get bored during slow, lyrical tunes without a lot of action, unless there's something equally striking to get my attention. One thing I do appreciate is that the fanvid tradition is more accepting of lipflap than the AMV folks, which is good, because sometimes I can't avoid it!

I suspect I'm still too slavishly attached to matching clips that literally reflect the lyrics AND linear storytelling for the Vividcon school, but I honestly don't know how to do it differently. It gets to the point where I'm not even sure what to call my vids anymore, because there are so many different terms and I don't seem to belong to any one camp.

In addition to me watching AMVs/AMV-culture things, one of the longer-time vidders said in a vexercises post (I think), that the streams have merged, so traditional live-action vid culture no longer exists/has hybridized with AMV culture, and that's the tradition I seem to have joined? And yeah, I like fast stuff as well. I've been known to backspace out of a vid if the song is too much of a snoozefest, lol.

(I now wonder how people would categorize/describe my vids/style of vidding...)

I don't watch vids enough to really understand the various traditions, but I kind of wish there was a piece of meta that like, traced the lineages of traditions on it!

I first read that as transitions, and went "ah! I have just the meta for that! but then I reread. But! I did find the comment about the youtube vs vividcon traditions: Much more vid as artwork or vid as poetry than vid as essay.
