In my grand tradition of coming in late with starbucks, I watched all 6 episodes of the Kenobi show yesterday. Overall I was a bit underwhelmed. Baby Leia was great, and I appreciated what they were trying to do with Obi-Wan, except that the arc felt like it was missing something – they should've tied the idea of letting go of the Anakin Obi-Wan once knew in more, or had Obi-Wan mention that though he be tied to Tatooine, he'd still do stuff to help the Rebellion.
Also they should've spent some of their budget on lighting. The day scenes were okay, but all the night scenes were just dark smudges on a dark background moving around. The camera also shook so much it was like it was experiencing its own personal earthquake, which didn't help matters.
Reva was an interesting idea and her character very plausible, but the bit at the end where she goes after Luke came out of nowhere. How did she even know Luke existed/was in any way tied to Anakin? WTF.
The biggest offender, though, was the final fight between Vader and Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan ends up getting a last-minute power-up and totally pwning Vader ... and then just fucking off without killing Vader, who is at his mercy. ???? They could've avoided this so easily! Have Obi-Wan hit Vader's mask, dramatically splitting it in two, after which we get the Emotionally Significant Vader Lines, Obi-Wan lets go of the idea that he can bring Anakin back, and only then does Vader bury him under the ground. Or have Vader use the Force to yeet Obi-Wan to a large enough distance they can't find each other anymore. Anything. Please. Really.
I watched this in case there would be any footage I could use to touch up my vid. Given the constant shakiness of the camera, I'd say no, though I did mark the potentially useful timestamps down. If you like logical resolutions or are invested in Obi-Wan Kenobi not being a complete idiot, you should skip this one.

Date: 2023-09-18 01:27 (UTC)Yeah, it's really soured me on watching stuff. I'm already not great and/or motivated to watch things, but IIRC the last movie I saw in theaters was Wonder Woman and there were scenes I could not see what was going on. It's like, why am I bothering watching it when they don't care enough to make that actually possible?
