I'm back!
This plottery is very intricate. I don't think we've seen all of Duan Tongzhou's masters yet/he has his own agenda. We haven't seen the full extent of the web yet. I wonder whether recruiting General Ji was Duan Tongzhou's own plan, or did Minister Xun suggest it? Xun Feizhan will be caught between a rock and a hard place, but he'd probably rather uphold justice than save his uncle. Duan Tongzhou is connected to Priest Puyang and thus Empress Xun. With this and the infertility-causing poison for Meng Qianxue, it seems the Xun clan is quite determined to bring down Changlin. And while they do have their just reasons, they should really just ... ask the Emperor and talk about it. (Hell, even Tingsheng would agree.) Princess Laiyang's plot seems to be smaller and separate. She also has a colossal inferiority complex and is overprotective, or is trying to subtly manipulate her son into resenting his cousins. The Song-Duan-Puyang-Xun plot might also be two separate plots – or a horseshoe plot that has just met at the ends of Duan Tongzhou and Minister Xun.
Pingzhang was confused why the old doc mentioned Lin Xi's age casually in conversation. The Changlin clan may figure out who she is, eventually, but I think that given the trajectory of her friendship with Pingjing, she may confess herself first.
Pingjing really really really isn't suited for life in court, but his relationship with Yuanshi is adorbs. He's also getting on better with Lin Xi. The Emperor–Pingzhang–Pingjing dynamic is intriguing, as is the fact that Pingzhang would rather have Pingjing be the Heir of Changlin. (PZ no. PJ would accidentally screw everything up with his hotheaded earnestness.) Meng Qianxue and Pingzhang are cute together.
Minister Song's arrest and prison scenes were well-done. I wonder whether Minister Shen (Rites) is actually a sycophant trying to curry favor with Changlin, or part of a plot to make Changlin House loathed for stepping above their station.
So far, I think my favorite is actually Xun Feizhan.

Date: 2018-01-22 18:32 (UTC)By now there are many characters that I like and I really hope none of them die.
I actually was relieved to learn that Princess Laiyang has been cursing the Emperor, because I figured his illness was a sure sign he would die in the not too distant future, but maybe not if the curse is lifted. Poor Yuanqui though, it'll break his heart.
I'm curious if Duan Tongzhou really is working for High Priest Puyang, or if he's playing his own game. My guess is that Puyang is working with Northern Yan. I bet there was a method behind them deliberately targething Pingzhang's regiment.
I really liked Pingzhang's talk with the Empress. He doesn't want her as an enemy, and he doesn't want to have to lean on his close relationship with the Emperor (loved their talk btw), but he will if there's a threat to his father, wife, or brother.

Date: 2018-01-22 19:38 (UTC)Ooh, who are your favorites? Do you sort of like everyone equally, or are there people you like more than others? Anyone you love to hate?
Pingzhang is very good at that sort of thing and gets to do such things in future episodes as well!
