I voted! It's the parliamentary elections, and in my district, based on polling, there's one seat that could go to either [party I voted for] or to the racist fuckwit party. So, uh, if you have the right to vote in the Finnish parliamentary election: please do. We're currently in early voting, and the actual results of the vote will be known by the Monday after next. Fingers crossed.

In fandom news, I stayed up until 2am first writing the Guardian Rewatch post for episode 7 and then making icons for the icontalking song set challenge. Not worth it, 0/10, do not recommend at all. Go to sleep on time, penguin.

I did, however, complete the two winners of the poll I put up! Now I'm tempted to continue the Finnish-language song, but the lyrics I'd iconize just ... don't translate well. "Let's drive fast / and be all silent / you can pour tequila down my throat" is much harder to iconize and sounds much less impressive than "Ajetaan kovaa / ollaan ihan hiljaa / saat kaataa mun napaan tequilaa". (I also discovered that the drink and thus the song are called Tequila in Finnish in a direct contravention of Finnish orthography. If it's pronounced "tekila", it should be spelled "tekila" gdi!! Whiskey/whisky is spelled "viski", what's wrong with "tekila"?) I also have half-baked ideas for iconizing it all the way from the start to the "and my only homeland" icon I have so far. If the song were in English, I probably would, but given the nigh-nonexistent crossover between Guardian fans and people who speak Finnish, it doesn't quite seem worth the effort. Even if "muistoksi tulevaisuuteen" ("as a memory for the future") and "(kylttiin) menneen maailman" ("(into a signpost) of a bygone world") would fit the past era... Ah well. It's not like we're in any danger of running out of Shen Wei icons. Go resolve this dilemma by voting on the linked poll?

520 Day Reverse Exchange sign-ups have closed. Soon, there will be claiming, and after that, fic to write! I have written a long, long letter of requests for no reason beyond the fact that I enjoy writing letters. IDK whether I should actually post it somewhere or just copypaste the appropriate prompts for the people I select. In any case, I'll try to make inroads into my MDZS WIP. It only needs 7k-ish and a thorough editing, but I can do the latter after I've taken a break to write Guardian stuff.

Guardian certainly does deprive us of sleep, doesn't it? I think I'm doing slightly better at sleeping more, but not *much*. Sigh.

Good luck with the elections. I don't know what the climate is like in Finland, but the world is very scary right now. :/

I do usually sleep more, but ... occasionally I slip. And suffer. Sigh.

They're projecting a win for the Left, but they're still unsure about what sort of coalition would form. Party politics and not wanting to give competition the chance to shout from the opposition means the SDP wants one of the other big parties (from the center-right) as a coalition partner. Me, I just want a rousing victory for the SDP, Greens, and Left Alliance, so they could for once govern together with a majority coalition and actually undo all the crap Sipilä and his right-wing cronies did. And while I'm wishing for things, I wish the racist fuckwit party and the Christian Democrats would cease to exist, and the people who voted for them realize the error of their ways.

It's not so much that I stay up too late - morning person, I had an old people bedtime even in uni - but when I wake up before the alarm, I really find it hard to go back to sleep when I could be thinking about ALL THINGS GUARDIAN.

So much stress, this fandom, and yet so good. <3

*g* My natural circadian rhythm hasn't quite grasped that the Earth's period of rotation is 24 hours. Falling asleep is already hard, I don't need additional incentives to stay up!

Thanks! The other center-right parties (the Center Party especially) look to lose, but alas, the racist fuckwit party will still keep some seats. Hopefully their internal split a while back will eat at their voter base...
