questionable life choices: check

I am worldconning! Combined with glymr's Guardian rewatchalong, this means that I will need to wake up by 9pm on Friday for the rewatchalongs (21:00-22:00, 23:00-00:00), and then as soon as they finish, the Saturday Worldcon content starts! So I should go to sleep on Friday by ... let's say I want 8 hours ... noon. :DDD I don't think I can speak of having a sleep schedule anymore.

In further "I regret my life choices" news, Shen Wei's transmigration into KOTOR2 is going very, very verbosely. He has just left Citadel Station and that has taken us almost 16k. /o\ I am perhaps 15% through, so... over 100k??? D: noo my fingers

(That is to say: expect this in 2021. Especially since I need to sprinkle more Shen Wei being a drama llama in there. Anyway, have an excerpt.)

"I understand that you were approached by an Ithorian earlier. Doubtless he tried to obtain your help, attempting to purchase it with imposed guilt and veiled threats..."

"‘Imposed guilt’?"

"Yes. They play at being downtrodden innocents, having come to you beacuse of these ‘Jedi’ rumors that are going around the station."

"I don't recall him threatening me."

"Oh, and I suppose he didn't mention the Exchange? ‘Helping’ you with any problems here? In other words, the Ithorans won't lead the Exchange to you if you work with them?"

"No, he didn't mention anything like that."

"Well, no matter. My apologies – I never intended to waste your time discussing Ithorians," Jana Lorso said. "Their plans for the restoration of Telos are aimless and meandering. ‘Restore the sacred, natural beauty of Telos,’ they say. Just what does that mean? How does that apply to natural resource development and consumption? The proper planning of urban sectors? Resorts and tourism?"

The woman reminded Shen Wei much too much of his least favorite member of the University board. "I am done talking to you," he said. "It was not a pleasure." He pressed the "end call" button and ignored Kreia's aggravated sigh.

He is such a melodramatic little shit, and I love him. He'll spend some more time on Telos's surface, but when he's on Nar Shaddaa, he'll definitely take an opportunity to be petty as fuck.

I hope you enjoy the worldconning! I am worldconning as staff, but sadly unable to attend any programming due to timezones and so forth, which is almost like being at an in-person worldcon except I usually get to at least one panel. Heh. I'm told by attendees who are going to programme items that there are some very interesting ones. I might have to see what I can see on catch-up now we've ironed out some of the glitches with that :D

The sleep shift was "wake up early, go to bed early", which is easier to recover from than the reverse – just go to bed early and zzz for more time than usual! :D I really enjoyed the panels I got to. There were some on Sunday I missed due to sleeping/other stuff, so I'm waiting for them to go up on the rewatch website. (Unfortunately it doesn't have all of them, but fingers crossed?)

You sound Scandinavian to me? So, yes, I guess? I can't really narrow it down any further, since I don't know enough Swedes/Norwegians/Finns to tell the details apart.

Lol, the Finnish and Swedish/Scandinavian accents couldn't be further apart; somehow, the conflation is hilarious to me. Thank you for the laughs! /has an accent that is more borne of autism than linguistic background

I know that the languages are very far apart. But, honestly, I know one Swedish actor's accent, nobody from Norway, and I have heard Mikka Häkkinnen talk. That is the extent of my experience. So... forgive me for conflating things that don't sound similar in your head. :)

I am constantly put in the wrong corner when it comes to my German accent, and I always go "but those two have nothing in common", but apparently, for people from the North, everyone in the South sounds the same and vice versa. :)

Finnish accent: very very monotone and flat, a bit mumbly
Swedish accent: almost singsong, with a clear rhythm and lots of pitch variation

Ha, yeah, people aren't as good at placing accents as they think they are, and are even worse at identifying the features that make them place the accent there.
