In one way, I suppose it would be the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, but then again, I already got into the era and the characters with The Clone Wars earlier, so I'll go with Star Wars: the Old Republic. It's a MMO coming up on its 10th anniversary in December – complete with an expansion announced for the time – and as someone who only started in February/March, I've had a great time!
The basic concept is that there are 8 storylines to start with – they're called classes, but currently each class gives you the choice between two gameplay classes at character creation – and then you go through a story set in the days of the Old Republic, when the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire are in a cold war and gearing up for a hot one. It's set a few centuries after the KOTOR games and ~3600 years before the prequels, IIRC. Anyway, after the "base" game's storylines are over, they twine together into 2 (one per faction) or 1, depending on the expansion. I prefer the ones with faction-specific storylines, and both the 2019 expansion and the upcoming one are going to have them.
The fact that there are several storylines at the start also gives a good reason/excuse for making a bunch of alts! I've done 5 of the base game storylines (Jedi Knight, Sith Warrior, Sith Inquisitor, Smuggler, Imperial Agent), and should start with the Republic Trooper at some point soon. You can track my gameplay and such on my SWTOR tag. So far, story-wise, I'd say the best is Sith Warrior, though my favorite to actually play is my Sith Inquisitor. (Zap around lighting like it's on a 90% off discount!)
Costs: technically free to play, but given the generous treatment of former subscribers (if you sub for a month, you get all the expansions that were out during that month unlocked for your account in perpetuity) I'd rec subscribing for a bit. I created a character on friends' recommendation and played up to level 20, decided I was having fun, and tossed Bioware money.
MMO stuff: the storyline is 100% soloable. However, the group questing interface/group conversation system is great, so if a rando invites you to a group, try accepting! There are a few forms of endgame group content (three different types of PvE group missions all with varying levels of challenge, two types of PvP) and while there are occasional idiots, the community is for the most part super helpful, especially if you say "hi! this is my first time here" or whatever.
And for the visuals – well, I'm running on Medium graphics, and it looks like this:

My Jedi Knight on Coruscant.
I also discovered someone documented graphics option effects! Shall go through those and adjust mine to be a bit lighter maybe.
Anyway, if you're interested, and especially if you end up actually playing on the Darth Malgus server, hit me up! Kurebir pubside and Midwan Asp impside.
