Hello! I bring to you an all-new character, who is also my first Human. (Why play humans when you can play aliens? Except then I ran out of alien species – I'm skipping the Miraluka because I like eyes – and poking around with the character creator gave me a nice look for a Human. Behold, Arahat Jina, Jedi Shadow:

(Also pictured: her Master, Yuon Parr.)

Arahat comes from arhat/arahant, a Buddhist term for people who've advanced along the path of Enlightenment but haven't reached Buddhahood yet, and Jina is an alternative title for the Buddha (though the term means "Conqueror" and is more commonly used to name an individual who has attained liberation in Jainism). Mostly I wanted to make an extremely Jedi name, and poked about the Wikipedia articles on Buddhism to find something for my Space Buddhist.

Screencap album.

Tython: Young Padawan Jina stepped off a transport and was greeted by Council Master Syo Bakarn, who assigned her to Yuon Parr. Then started the questline! It was actually pretty cool! We had to go save some holograms (lol) of the masters of the first Jedi Council from the native Flesh Raiders, except that one of them was stolen – and the one of Master Rajivari who Fell to the Dark Side, at that. Then starts the hunt for the hologram, except that it was stolen not by a Flesh Raider but by a person from the Twi'lek village who was Force Sensitive and got corrupted by Master Rajivari and is now in search of the Font of Rajivari, legendary place where Rajivari put all his knowledge. On the way, we meet Master Yuon's dear friend, a Trandoshan by the name of Qyzen Fess, and we get to take him along to the Font of Rajivari and the final confrontation with the Fallen Twi-lek (who went quite mad under Rajivari's influence). The plot ends with the Consular getting Knighted – and Master Yuon collapsing with a mysterious illness.

The only problem was that I got a green lightsaber and I am blue at heart.

Coruscant: Master Yuon has been delivered to a healer, but she's not ill, she's possessed! The plot consists of discovering WTF is up with the disease (ancient possession disease by a Sith) and then tracking down a trio of noetikons (holocrons with 3 Jedi Masters each?) so that we can slot them into the old Jedi Temple on Coruscant and learn the (temporary) cure. A Sith Lord (probably the one causing the plague) sent his Apprentice to try to keep anyone from the noetikons and then to destroy the Temple library after we learned the cure and then try to kill us. Emphasis on try. Anyway, cure in hand, we cure Yuon (by using some of our energy to shield her from the Sith) only to discover other Jedi Masters might've fallen ill.

Yuon = cured

Taris: The first of the non-Yuon masters! This one also had a padawan, and I loved that we could express sympathy for the padawan and try to appeal to the master through that. Some nice LS/DS decisions, and a few nice cutscenes with use of the Force. I was a bit meh on being unable to tell the troopers suffering from the possessed master's planet-destruction efforts that the master was, y'know, possessed, since as it was all the "it's just his illness" fell a bit flat. We had to give the master up to the Republic judicial system so as to hide that we were on the Sith plaguelord's trail, but Jina did suggest giving him an advocate, since he wasn't in control of his actions when he set the rakghouls on people and tried to destroy the settlement. I did appreciate that the Jedi Master was Kalee!

Curing the Master

I have spoken of my love for video game archaeology before, so: I loved the video game archaeology bits! The first three Masters whose holograms we spoke with were a nice opportunity to think about what sorts of things one's character would appreciate as a Jedi, and there were a lot of excellent chances to talk people down, as well as to be smart and apply one's learnings. Also lots of conversations have options that are all "Ah yes, I know about this. The [plot-relevant exposition], right?" which I appreciate.

At Rajivari's hologram/holocron.

WRT Rajivari, I actually liked him a surprising amount. He did Fall, but this was before the ancient Jedi had made contact with the Sith; he set out to reform the Jedi rather than destroy them, so he was rather sanguine about cooperating with a regular Jedi. I also enjoy mentorship so uh dubiously moral ancient bad guy advising me about building my lightsaber? Yes, I like that too.

I also absolutely love the character. She gets to have actual expressions, and the voice is nice and deep and she doesn't sound like she has a permanent :o expression, unlike the Knight.

An expression.

So far I have one companion, Qyzen Fess. He is interesting! A Trandoshan who became friends with a Jedi Master and who is very into the Trandoshan goddess, the Scorekeeper. Basically one gets Jagannath points for each successful kill of something, and Qyzen had his reset by being captured alive during the Tython plot so now he's following us around for the Scorekeeper points – rather wisely, as while Jina is a Shadow and thus has stealth, she runs around mowing down rakghouls, giving him a bunch of jagannath points.

Personality-wise, Qyzen of course likes honorable kills and challenging prey, but he's also loyal to Yuon and likes loyalty, both to Yuon and it seems in general. Or perhaps he just has a thing for master-padawan bonds. Anyway, he's surprisingly deep, and I look forward to discovering more about him. His opinions and approval are in many ways nicely orthogonal to Jedi stuff.
