In between writing my
fffx assignment (I just hit 10k! I still need a few scenes before it's complete, though.) and screen recording for my
vid_bingo Same Song entry, I've been listening to new-to-me music. As someone who enjoys lyrics in addition to the instrumentation, let me say, I really appreciate bands that have lyrics up on their website. Walk in Darkness might be too drone-y for me, but kudos for having the words up in an accessible place!
Then I had the urge to look up the lyrics to a song I already know (Koneeseen kadonnut by Apulanta) since it's one of those background vidbunny songs and I had forgotten the second verse, and I discovered I'd actually misheard the song in two spots: in the refrain, they sing "Siitä kysymys enää tässä kai on" ("That's what all this seems to be about now"), not "Siitä kysymys elämässä kai on" ("That's what life seems to be about"), and the bridge has "Miten niin muka armoton" ("What do you mean, merciless") instead of "Miten niukka, armoton" ("How scant and merciless"). The first isn't that big a change in meaning, but omg, the second. It works with the idea (after all, Vader was redeemed at the end), but not necessarily the footage. Anyway. It's not like it's something I'd make anytime soon, since I'd have to get the Kenobi show, and I am consumed by the urge to make n+1 Palpatine vids first.
Definitely considering making this year's
vexercises be a challenge round where the vids can't have lyrics in English unless they're using SWTOR footage. And perhaps my
vid_bingo card as well, if I end up doing that.

Date: 2023-01-14 19:53 (UTC)Me too! Sadly, a lot of the lyrics in English aren't official and are riddled with mis-hearings. (I've been listening to an album recently with a song that goes "but for you I'm a one-man army" and the lyrics websites (which all seem to copy from each other) have "but for you I'm one man, I'm me" which, what? No!)

Oh, yeah, that second one really turns it around. Glad you can maybe make it work anyway, with the idea at least. *fingers crossed for the footage, if you ever get to it*

Date: 2023-01-14 20:34 (UTC)Songs in Finnish are generally easier to understand, since singers tend to have slightly better diction and there's a smaller number of possible syllables, so I was actually surprised that I had gotten it wrong here. In multiple places, even! But yes, if I ever get around to making that vid, I think I can work around it/work it in. Either by adding Luke or by having it be something that the audience can think about as context for the Vader stuff being shown.

aa I wish I had time to learn Finnish. Maybe in another ten years...

Kiitos! The only actual Finnish word I know properly. I'm going to come back and take you up on this in about 10-15 years if I may. (Actually kind of serious, learning Finnish is a treat I'm saving for retirement and/or when my field stops existing, I figure that's when I'll have time, and it'll be good for my brain, and it'll be fun...).
