Let's start with the book review: All in all, more of a portrait of the life on the street and the two chief investigators who made the report that the cause of the cholera outbreak was in the water. Additionally, it had asides into the nature of cholera, Victorian society, the miasma theory, and a paean to urbanization, but NOTHING ABOUT SEWERS. It is a nice enough book, but it's less of a case study and more of a ... biography of a moment, perhaps. I am definitely not the intended audience. Perhaps I should just look up some monograph on designing sewage systems, sigh.
Additionally, I have shoveled lots of snow and made dou sha bao, though with only 200g of sugar for the azuki bean paste, rather than the suggested 400-ish. Tasted good, would recommend.
I suppose my Yuletide contributions are contributed, unless the poetry bug bites. Let's see if I can stuff stockings for fandom_stocking in these weeks.
